Growing up in Oklahoma, I was frequently invovled with children and education. Apart from the usual babysitting, I was also very involved helping with my mother's first grade classroom. I attended Booker T. Washington High School, which is a nationally recognized magnet school. After graduation, I attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with an associated minor in Philosophy from UNM. I began attending the University of Denver College of Law in 2000, from which I received my Juris Doctorate in 2003.. I did not take the traditional path to becoming an attorney, however. After graduating from the University of Denver I moved to Dillon, Colorado. Prior to becoming a dedicated family law attorney, I was a children's snowboard instructor for Breckenridge Ski Resort for four years. I returned to Denver in 2008 to briefly work for a personal injury firm. I did not find that personal injury was a good fit for me. I began doing intern work for Colorado Legal Services/Metro Volunteer Lawyers in 2009. This is where I received my introduction to family law. I began working for myself in 2010 and have not looked back.. I truly am dedicated to helping people through their divorces, custody issues and all other aspects that involve family law. The cases are seldom easy from an emotional standpoint. Being a mother, myself, to three young children I understand the heartache that can result from having to share custody of your children. However, I also understand the importance of having both parents being invloved in the children's lives. I offer caring and zealous representation and promise to never stop doing my very best for Colorado families.

Back home in Colorado, I worked for the Honorable Angela Arkin of the 18th Judicial District (a domestic docket) and passed the Colorado bar exam. I am a big fan of the Broncos and Avalanche. I graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley in 1994. After clerking in the Colorado Court of Appeals for a year, I became a prosecutor in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. I spent most of my nearly 20 years there prosecuting persons crimes, i.e. crimes where a person was victimized, such as assault, robbery, sexual assault, child abuse, and murder. I spent nearly 10 of those years prosecuting crimes against children. I can say, unequivocally, that I am one of the most experienced trial lawyers in Colorado.. I began my private practice career in 2015 at Gutterman Griffiths (later Griffiths Law). On November 1, 2020, two of my former partners at that firm and I opened a new law firm, WZW Family Law LLC. We brought two associates, four support staff, and five full caseloads with us into our new (ad)venture.. As a family law attorney, it's been my privilege to deal with some of the most complex and interesting assets out there, including stock options, restricted stock units, other deferred compensation, a private equity fund, partnerships in national and international accounting firms, thousands of acres of farm and ranch land, an aviation business, real estate and restaurant development businesses, law firms, law suit proceeds, medical practices, and a whole host of different kinds of trusts. My clients have ranged from “captains of industry” to stay-at-home spouses.. Because of my focus on persons crimes, I spent nearly every day working with victims of violent and traumatizing crimes, who were under enormous emotional stress when they met with me. My clients, and my colleagues, have told me that they value my ability to be calm in the face of emotional upheaval.. I became involved in Collaborative Divorce early on in my private practice career. I became qualified to handle collaborative divorce cases before I’d been a family law attorney for a year, joined the Colorado Collaborative Divorce Professionals (CCDP) shortly thereafter, became a Board Member for the organization in late 2016, served as its Executive Vice President in 2017, and President in 2018.. My background and experience are rare in the family law bar. Very few lawyers spend nearly every day of their career in court. No collaborative divorce attorney in the state has the trial background and skills that I have.. I bring all of my abilities to bear in everything I do for clients, from negotiating and settling cases to presenting evidence and making argument in a courtroom.

I am originally from Kentucky and have lived in Colorado for 18 years. I have had an opportunity to live all across this great state from the Denver Metro Area to Durango and points in between. I am truly thankful for the variety of legal experiences that I have had throughout my career and I think it has shaped the way that I practice law. I have made it my goal to practice with integrity and professionalism because I recognize that reflects not only on me but on my clients. My goal is to give my clients as much information as possible to enable them to make the informed decisions necessary to accomplish their goals and solve their legal issues.

Divorce work can be trying and can also be challenging and sometimes very complicated, but because I care so much about people, I find joy in doing the job every single day. Having worked as a family law lawyer exclusively for the past 20 years I can easily say that I am an expert in my field and that I have built a team of experts that provide excellent service and top-notch legal skills. I have had the opportunity to enhance or help the lives of many individuals and their families during their most difficult and challenging times. Whether it is a divorce, a custody battle, a modification of maintenance or child support or modification of a custody or parenting time order, defense or prosecution of a contempt matter or mediation of one of those matters, I have been there to ease my client's minds and provide them with top notch legal representation (or settlement, in the event of mediations). My goal is always to negotiate an amicable settlement or resolution, but when matters require trial or court, I have a total of 24 years of litigation experience and I have taken hundreds of cases to trial. I am a published author of a legal article, a continuing legal education presenter and currently the Vice Chair of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. And a former Chair of the Colorado Bar Association's Family Law Section. My former associate, Jamie Rutten, and current associate Melina Moses have filed several appeals and with two, successful in creating or upholding new law related to non-parent paternity and maternity actions. Every year since 2011, my peers rated me as a Super Lawyer, and since 2012 I have been rated as a Top 100 Colorado Super Lawyer, a Top 50 Colorado Women Super Lawyer, and since 2015 a 5280 Top Lawyer. I have been named Best Lawyer in the family law and mediation fields by Best Lawyers, and CCB has been named a Best Firm by the same and US News. I have built multiple teams of excellent, highly-rated family law lawyers during my years as a mentor and leader of the family law section in our firm(s). I and am proud to say my team is as successful as I am at providing the specialization and expertise a client needs in a family law case. My personal specialty is working on high asset, high net-worth, high income divorce and custody matters. I also work on many divorces where business are involved, and/or complex financials, trusts, pre-nuptials and pos-nuptials, and other complex issues. My team includes ten associates, ranging in gender, age, and years of experience and we are supported by 5 experienced family law paralegals. My firm, Ciancio, Ciancio Brown, P.C. (CCB) has total of 15 attorneys that specialize in most "typical" areas of law, including business disputes, real estate, commercial and civil litigation, criminal law, personal injury law, wrongful death, and employment law. Our strengths include our "specialization" our "expertise" and our "dedication" to our clients. This gives me, my team and our firm the edge that is necessary in today's complex and challenging legal world. We practice law throughout the State of Colorado with offices located in Denver, Broomfield, and Breckenridge. Recently we also acquired a long-time all mediation/arbitration business that handles all types of family law mediations, where we offer a variety of mediators, experience, rates, hours, and all new high-tech means of scheduling and settlement procedures. If you need a legal expert I hope you consider CCB in your time of need, and I promise you'll be impressed.
