He was recognized by the Air Force as a Hometown Hero in 2007.. After returning from his Operation Enduring Freedom deployment Matt continued his legal education at the University of Illinois and accepted an internship with the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Office (JAG) at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida.. At the end of his enlistment and voluntary extension Matt was honorably discharged in 2008, so he could pursue his legal career.
