Meghan is and has long been committed to fighting for social justice by advocating for those disadvantaged by their circumstances.. At NB&W:. Armed with a long history of public service work, including mentoring disadvantaged youth and teens and serving on the boards of numerous charitable organizations, Meghan joined Newman Bronson & Wallis after completing her J.D. at Saint Louis University to participate in promoting legal justice through her work as an attorney. Meghan has dedicated much of her time at NB&W to advocating on behalf of numerous individuals suffering from lead poisoning in their lawsuit against a lead smelter that operated in proximity to their childhood homes. Through her work with this case, Meghan helped recover compensation for the individuals who suffered losses and injuries from toxic lead exposure while advocating for all individuals’ rights to live safe and healthy lives in our community, by holding the negligent parties accountable for their disregard of public health and safety.. Public interest law:. Prior to her work at NB&W, Meghan dedicated much of her time during law school to preserving criminal defendants’ Constitutional rights through several internships with both the Federal and State Public Defenders. Meghan assisted at the trial level of the State PDs in St. Louis City by participating in the defense of felony defendants, authoring motions for bond reduction and to combat prosecutor conflict of interest, and interviewing individuals in need of representation. Subsequently, Meghan joined the Capital Division of the MSPD, contributing to the defense of several clients facing the death penalty.. For the Federal Public Defenders, Meghan was honored as one of two students selected to serve in a year-long clerkship on the research and writing team – a group solely focused on written legal advocacy through motions, briefs, and memoranda. In her tenure at the Federal PDs, after tenaciously arguing through hundreds of pages of briefing and memoranda, Meghan successfully obtained a ruling suppressing evidence that was collected in violation of a defendant’s Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment rights.. Prior professional and academic experiences:. Before commencing her law studies, Meghan worked as the founding coordinator of the Learning Center at Chamberlain College of Nursing, which provided tutoring and academic assistance to students. Simultaneously, Meghan completed more than 30 hours of doctoral coursework in Higher Education, focused on student learning and achievement.. Prior to her work in academia, Meghan completed her Master’s Degree in English Language and Literature with a focus on James Joyce and British Modernism at Washington University.. Other public interest work:. Meghan has spent a big portion of her time throughout her life to serving the public interest. Meghan has been mentoring disadvantaged teens since she was herself a teenager, starting in high school, continuing through college, and still today. Meghan has also served on numerous boards of charity organizations, putting on fundraisers and events to raise awareness, and Meghan continues to serve on numerous charitable boards. Meghan also volunteers her time to a number of local nonprofit organizations that assist those in need and which also promote the local arts community.
