Ashton earned a B.A. in Political Science & Communications with a minor in Portuguese from Rutgers University in 2008, Cum Laude. He earned his J.D. from New England Law | Boston in 2013, Summa Cum Laude.. During college, Ashton held positions at radio stations in the NY and Philadelphia metro areas and later worked at a telecommunications and media company serving the tri-state area.. Prior to attending law school, Ashton was employed as a paralegal at Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer P.A.. While in law school, Ashton was declared a New England Scholar for his place in the top 15% of his class. He received the Trustee’s Academic Scholarship in 2011 for his position as second in his class.. An accomplished student, Ashton wrote on to the New England Journal of Criminal and Civil Confinement and was offered a competitive internship at the Center for Public Health and Tobacco Policy, where he helped draft proposed legislation — later adopted as the cigarette smoking ban in Central Park.. He was selected for the Honor’s Judicial Clerkship in his 2nd year where he clerked in the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts for the Chief Justice of the Trial Courts.. In his final year of law school, he was selected for an externship at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office | Division of Consumer Protection – Insurance and Financial Services Unit, where the findings of his investigation report resulted in a $ settlement for several States in a multi-jurisdictional class action.. Ashton secured a coveted legal clerkship after law school and clerked in the Superior Court of New Jersey for Judge Michael F. O’Neill, J.S.C..After serving an extended clerkship term at the request of his Judge, Ashton litigated in private practice for approximately two years before taking a job at Bloomberg LP where he spent the past 6 years from 2016 – 2022.. In his first role at Bloomberg, Ashton acquired technical skills on the job, while managing a team of data scientists, engineers, and attorneys. The team successfully built five machine learning algorithms that performed legal research with more accuracy than human analysts.. From 2018 – 2022, Ashton worked in the Chief Risk and Compliance Office and subsequently, the Chief Technology Office at Bloomberg.. Holding both a diversified legal background and technological background sets Ashton apart from other attorneys and lends itself well to the music industry as technology has always been an integral component of music..
