Jennifer Nunnery is a native of Batavia, NY. After graduating from Batavia High School she joined the U.S. Army Military Police Corp where she deployed to Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and 2006. After earning the Army Combat Action Badge and two Army Commendation Medals, she received an honorable discharge. Jennifer returned to her hometown to attend GCC to earn her A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies. While attending GCC Jennifer was president of Phi Theta Kappa and received a SUNY Chancellor's Award, the GCC Board of Trustees Award, made the New York State All State Academic 1st Team, Student of the Month, and was honored as GCC's 20,000th graduate.. At the encouragement of local attorneys who saw great potential in Jennifer, she continued her education on a scholarship to The College at Brockport where she earned a B.S. in Political Science, summa cum laude, and a minor in International Studies. Jennifer was the President of the Honors Club and Vice President of the Veteran's Club on campus. She received the Honors Program Outstanding Senior Award upon graduation.. Jennifer attended the University at Buffalo Law School in Buffalo, NY. While there she participated in the 2013 International Niagara Moot Court Competition where her team won the competition, bringing the Niagara Cup to Buffalo for the first time in 42 years. Jennifer and her partner took 2nd place for Best Respondent Argument and Jennifer took 3rd Place in the competition for Best Oral Advocate. Jennifer then turned her attention to participating in UB's prestigious trial advocacy program. Her team competed in the 2013 Peter James Johnson National Civil Rights Trial Competition where they took 2nd place.. Jennifer graduated cum laude from the University at Buffalo and received the Robert J. Connelly Trial Technique Award given by the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association for students who demonstrated exceptional performance in trial techniques.. While in law school Jennifer interned at the Genesee County Public Defender's Office and the Monroe County Public Defender's Office gaining valuable experience and mentorship from some of the most experienced public defenders in Western New York. Jennifer also worked alongside attorneys in the Buffalo Legal Aid Office with individuals recently released from federal incarceration participating in the Western District of New York's Federal Reentry Court Program run by U.S. Magistrate Judge Hugh B. Scott. Jennifer also worked at the Buffalo, NY law firm of Harrington and Mahoney working on a wide variety of publicized cases in federal court.. Jennifer's dedication to criminal defense garnered notice and she was honored with a law student board member position for the New York State Defender's Association, a not-for-profit organization that has been providing support to New York's public defense community since 1967. Its mission is to improve the quality and scope of publicly supported legal representation to low income people.. Jennifer believes in giving back to her community. For the past 3 years she has volunteered as a Veteran Mentor with the Batavia Veterans Treatment Court in Batavia City Court offering support to our community’s veterans going through the program.
