I was born and raised in Boone, North Carolina. I went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for both my undergraduate degree and Juris Doctorate. After graduation from law school, I moved back home for a short time before joining a national family law firm in Charlotte, North Carolina in May 2010. During my tenure there, I became an Assistant Litigation Manager, managing two associate family law attorneys while also having a full case load. In July 2013, I attended and graduated from the ABA Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute, a week long intensive program for trial advocacy in the specific field of family law. In June 2015, I transitioned to a boutique law firm in Charlotte, NC specializing in the practice of family law.. In 2016, with my daughter and husband, I moved back to the High Country where I call home.. I bring my zealous advocacy to the High Country region to aggressively fight to protect the interests of my clients, both in the courtroom and in settlement negotiations.

When you ask anyone what the most important thing is in their life, the most popular answer is, “family.” My answer to this question is no different. We all define our “family” in a unique way, and like anything else, a family experiences change throughout the course of a person’s life.. If you’re looking for a Family Law attorney, it’s because your family is about to experience a change. This may be for good or bad, for better or worse, but change means life, as you once knew it, is going to be different. More likely than not, this change may be overwhelming and it will bring some level of stress and anxiety with it.. The role of a Family Law attorney is to help you navigate through this time–from a legal standpoint as well as a personal standpoint. I watched as my aunt and uncle went through the emotional ups and downs of adopting a daughter from another country. I experienced the eventual, long anticipated happiness that came with the finalization of their adoption. I’ve watched as loved ones experienced the many emotions that come with the end of a marriage. These experiences drew me to Family Law.. Helping people, truly listening to a person’s problems, and finding a solution is my passion. I love listening to people’s stories. I love hearing a person’s history, hearing about their family, hearing where they began and where they are now. This passion for helping people is what I bring to each and every client’s case.. Before joining Sodoma Law, I practiced with Legal Aid of North Carolina. I immediately began representing clients in the courtroom and in negotiations with the opposing side. Each of my clients faced stressful and sometimes overwhelming change. Among other things, I represented clients in obtaining domestic violence protective orders against abusive family members and I represented clients in securing custody of their children against a partner who was unfit to care for their children.. I understand that whether my client is experiencing what they would describe as a good or bad change, they need a compassionate, knowledgeable, strong advocate to help them navigate this time in their lives. They need an advocate who will listen to their story and help them achieve their goals, whatever those goals may be. I will listen to your story, I will take time to understand your goals, and I will cater my approach to your case depending on what you need from me during your time of need.. I’ve always had a desire to help people, and at Sodoma Law, I have the opportunity to help my clients overcome change in their family, define their “new normal,” and come out even better on the other side.

My experience in family law has taught me that we all have a story and that no two stories are alike. We all face challenges and we make difficult decisions that often have a lasting impact on our family and ourselves as individuals. Each decision we make ultimately becomes part of our story. As a family law attorney, nothing is more rewarding than empowering individuals to make well-informed decisions that can positively affect their story.. Whether you are seeking the assistance of an attorney to start a family through adoption or surrogacy, or to end your marriage, it is paramount that you understand the laws before you make a decision. As an attorney, I feel it is my responsibility to educate you about how those laws may impact you and help guide your decision. Although you are responsible for making these difficult choices, I will assist you and guide you along your path so that you have clear expectations and set reachable goals.. For most, while the same laws will govern your decision-making, the way you reach your goals may not be the same. For some, we will negotiate our way to your goal. For others, we may need to employ a third party, such as a mediator, arbitrator or even a counselor, to reach the outcome you hope to achieve. Still others will enter into litigation to achieve resolution. Whichever path we take, as your attorney, I am committed to you every step of the way. While no one can predict the future, inside or outside the courtroom, I can promise that you will not find another attorney or law firm that will be more dedicated, determined, and dependable than me and our team at Sodoma Law.

For over 25 years I have been and continue to be a dedicated and zealous advocate for my clients. I truly love family law and enjoy being in the courtroom. I have met thousands of clients in crisis, listened to their stories and provided advice that I felt was the best for each client in their unique situation. I conduct client led consultations that allow folks to tell me their story so that I can provide guidance tailored to each family. Born and raised in North Carolina, and practicing in Union County since 1998, I have practiced every day in front of judges and other lawyers in the same district. This means that each client benefits from each and every day of experience I have had in front of the very Judge that may be assigned to your case.
