For many years, I worked in the area of finance and computers (for small companies and non-profit organizations) while I worked towards obtaining my BS degree in Criminal Justice, with my ultimate goal to attend law school. In 2000 I started attending law school full time, attending classes at night and on weekends, all the while continuing to work full time to support my family. I graduated in 2003 and was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts in 2003. I was admitted to practice law in New Hampshire in 2004 and later that same year in Connecticut and Maine. Although I don't practice in Maine and Connecticut today, I continue to keep licenses active. I was a Guardian ad Litem appointed by the NH Courts in more than 150 cases involving parental rights and responsibilities, guardianships, termination of parental rights and relocation. Today, my practice includes a variety of areas of practice but is primarily focused on family issues, including divorce, parental rights and responsibilities, domestic violence issues, termination of parental rights, step-parent adoptions, wills, guardianships, deeds, prenuptial agreements, real property partitions, and other issues related to families.. I work closely with my clients to provide them with the best representation possible and to guide them through what is often a highly emotional process by providing reasonable expectations and guidance so that my clients can make informed decisions for not only their best interests, but also the best interest of their children and other family members.

Family Lawyers in Manchester, New Hampshire: Your Guide to Navigating Family Legal Issues

Introduction to Manchester, NH (ZIP 03108)
Manchester, the largest city in New Hampshire, is known for its vibrant community and rich history. Nestled along the Merrimack River, Manchester has a blend of urban and suburban charm, making it an attractive place for families. With its diverse neighborhoods, reputable schools, and a variety of recreational activities, life in Manchester is often ideal for raising children. However, like any community, residents occasionally face family legal issues that require professional guidance and support.

Common Family Legal Issues Faced by Residents
Family law encompasses a wide array of legal matters, and Manchester residents are no strangers to such challenges. Common issues include:

  1. Divorce and Separation: One of the most prevalent family legal concerns, divorce can be a complicated process involving asset division, child custody, and support arrangements.

  2. Child Custody and Support: Determining custody and support obligations can be contentious, especially when parents have differing views on what is best for their children.

  3. Adoption: While adoption is often a joyful occasion, the legal process can be complex and varies based on the type of adoption (private, relative, or foster care).

  4. Domestic Violence: Unfortunately, some families may face issues of domestic violence, requiring protective orders and legal intervention for the safety of all involved.

  5. Paternity Issues: Establishing paternity can impact child support and custody matters, and requires legal guidance to navigate effectively.

Local Case Examples or Situations
Consider the case of Jane and Mark, a couple living in Manchester who have decided to divorce after ten years of marriage. They have two children, ages 6 and 8. The couple is struggling to agree on a parenting plan, with Jane seeking primary custody while Mark wants shared parenting time. In this situation, a family lawyer can mediate discussions and help create a fair custody agreement that serves the children's best interests.

In another scenario, Emily, a single mother in Manchester, wishes to formalize her daughter’s relationship with her partner through adoption. This process requires understanding the legal requirements and navigating potential objections from the biological father. A local family lawyer specializing in adoption can provide the necessary support to ensure a smooth transition.

Typical Lawyer Fees and Variations in the 03108 ZIP Code
When it comes to hiring a family lawyer in Manchester, fees can vary based on several factors including the lawyer’s experience, reputation, and the complexity of the case. Generally, family lawyers may charge:

  • Hourly Rates: Most family lawyers in Manchester charge between $150 to $300 per hour.

  • Flat Fees: For straightforward cases like uncontested divorces, some lawyers may offer flat fees ranging from $1,000 to $3,500.

  • Retainers: Some lawyers may require a retainer fee, which can be several thousand dollars, depending on the anticipated workload.

It's essential for residents to discuss fees upfront during initial consultations to avoid any surprises later in the process.

Why Hiring a Local Lawyer Helps
Hiring a family lawyer from Manchester offers several advantages. Local attorneys have a deep understanding of New Hampshire family law and are familiar with the local court system, judges, and procedures. This familiarity can lead to more effective representation and potentially smoother resolutions.
