Sarah approaches the practice of law with an emphasis on client service. She learned from her father at a very young age that lawyering is about serving your clients first and foremost. What that looks like in practice is a business model that focuses on frequent client communication, availability of the attorney to the client and a teamwork approach between attorney and client in the case development and direction. Sarah is compassionate and empathetic. Her goal in every client interaction is to ensure the client feels heard and validated, and that their questions are addressed.. Sarah’s practice focuses exclusively on Social Security Disability law. She specializes in this area is because it allows her to help chronically ill and injured people get the benefits to which they are entitled. The Social Security disability application and appeals process is overly complex and the deck is stacked against the applicant. Many claimants are led to believe they can complete the process without an attorney, and then give up somewhere along the way because the appeals process and deadlines are overwhelming. Outcomes for claimants are much better overall when people have the assistance of a professional.. Sarah graduated with a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and English from the University of St. Thomas (Go Tommies!). Attending Minnesota schools for education allowed Sarah to begin tapping into her legal network while still obtaining her education. She gives back to both schools as an adjunct professor at the now-named Mitchell Hamline School of Law, and through the University of St. Thomas’ mentor program—both at the undergraduate and law school institutions.. Sarah’s dedication to professional excellence, development and service knows practically no bounds (just ask her husband). She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Anoka County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives, Minnesota Women Lawyers, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International.. Not satisfied with simply being a member, Sarah serves in leadership roles in nearly every organization of which she is a member. She currently serves on the councils of the MSBA’s New Lawyers Section, Social Security Disability Section, Practice Management and Marketing Section, and also serves as an Assembly At-Large Representative to the MSBA Executive Council. In addition, she has served as District Justice for Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International. Her region is District X, covering the law schools and alumni chapters in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin. In this position she mentors all the chapters and also organizes and presents leadership conferences twice per year. Despite these obligations, Sarah maintains a dedication to client matters first and foremost.. She has also been fortunate to have been recognized for her efforts and service. She was most recently named the Minnesota State Bar Associations Outstanding New Lawyer of the Year for 2018-2019. She was recognized for outstanding service by Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity with the Dan D. Halpin Award. In 2016, she was named Outstanding Section Member by the New Lawyers Section. Sarah won several awards from Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity for her work as an officer of her various chapters.. A runner, knitter, deer hunter, mother, wife and attorney living just outside the Twin Cities with her husband (Jason), four children (Esme, Mina, Roland, and Walter), dog (Fletcher), cat (Oreo) and four chickens (Belina, Sandslash, R2D2, and Starlight).. A Minnesota native, Sarah enjoys weekends spent at the cabin up north, year-round. In the summer time for fishing and boating and backyard camping for the kids. In the fall, the cabin becomes “deer camp” for the family. The winters are spent ice fishing and snowshoeing and enjoying the cold and quiet. Spring time is just mud.. When she is not working, she can be found at home with her family, trying new recipes or passing on her love of reading to her kids. She is also passing all of her nerdy fandoms on to her kids, including Doctor Who, all of the Marvel universe, her love of all things Halloween and more. You may also find her outside on a run. Sarah has completed many 5k and 10k races and also participates in “run streaks,” running consecutively day after day for at least a mile each day. She also has many crafting hobbies, including knitting, cross stitch and sewing.. If she is not at home, she is likely bringing children to sports or activities, or participating in one of her various volunteer roles. Sarah serves as her daughter Mina’s Girl Scout troop leader and enjoys mentoring Mina and the other girls in the troop in leadership and life skills. The children also participate in Boy Scouts, gymnastics, softball, baseball, volleyball and soccer.
