Arthur’s practice also includes intellectual property litigation and arbitration and he has successfully handled trademark, patent, design patent, copyright, and trade secret disputes.Due to his extensive experience as a transactions attorney, Arthur is adept at many forms of general business transactions and contractual agreements of all kinds but he has extensive experience with transactions that involve intellectual property, such as licensing, joint venture agreements, distribution and sales agreements, development agreements, technology agreements, non-compete and non-disclosure agreements and marketing and sales agreements of all types. Arthur has established special expertise in areas that are not common with attorneys practicing in the Midwest, including: Consumer Products Safety Commission regulatory matters; regulatory issues involving the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, all forms of labeling issues including “Made in America” claims and Prop 65 warnings, Canadian French language requirements, and requirements for safety warnings and other factors involved in consumer information and owners’ manuals.Formerly, Arthur was General Counsel for SFA, Inc. and worked extensively with its international affiliates and previously, he was Vice President of Law at the Sprint Corporation where he headed up, (in succession) the Litigation, Business & Technology, and the Marketing and Sales law departments. In addition to effectively handling litigation directly, Arthur is also a tremendous value-add as a litigation manager and often plays the role of “general counsel on special matters” managing major litigation for clients.Many intellectual property issues arise in the employee context and Arthur has drafted agreements, negotiated accords, and resolved all types of issues pertaining to intellectual problems in the employee context. While at Sprint, Arthur was the lawyer to the Sprint Ethics Program and he has drafted, administered and developed a wide range of employee training in ethics, compliance, and human resources in order to bolster the effectiveness of companies and other institutions.Before joining Sprint, Arthur was a law professor and he taught at the University of Miami Law School, Northern Illinois University College of Law, University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and Washburn Law School. Arthur is a mediator who has trained numerous mediators in the mid-west and he is affiliated with Associates in Dispute Resolution [ADR].Arthur is a CASA volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and previously served as Executive Director of the Midwest Innocence Project. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Cristo Rey Kansas City (an inner city high school); Temple Beth Torah; Prairie State Legal Services; and an Advisory Board Member for the University of Kansas Center for International Business Education & Research as well as the University of Kansas Center for International Business Ethics.
