Mark A. Javier graduated from The John Marshall Law School in 2006 with the aspiration of becoming an exceptional trial lawyer. During law school Mark discovered his passion for trial work through mock trial competitions, and courses in trial advocacy and trial evidence. After earning his Juris Doctor, Mark pursued his desire for trial work in the field of criminal law. He began his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County where he handled a wide range of criminal prosecutions, including misdemeanors and felonies. The extraordinarily heavy case load allowed him to conduct trials at a rapid pace so that he could hone his skills in the courtroom.. In 2011, Mark expanded his field of practice into health care law when he accepted a position with the Illinois Department of Public Health as Associate General Counsel. He joined a small team of lawyers who were charged with litigating and regulating every nursing home and extended care facility in the state. Mark also handled several department initiatives including compliance with rules pertaining to swimming pool drainage systems, regulation of synthetic cannabis and Freedom of Information Act compliance. He conducted numerous administrative hearings, negotiated effective settlements between the state and corporations and provided valuable legal advice to clients.. Eventually Mark began a solo practice in 2012 to serve the community and provide quality legal counsel to individuals of modest means. His primary area of practice was representing clients accused of criminal offenses, but he also represented individuals in civil defense, administrative hearing and transactional matters. As a private practitioner, Mark added to his trial advocacy experience through numerous bench and jury trials.. After running his own office for several years, Mark has joined the team at Patton & Ryan LLC to continue his trial advocacy work and contribute to the civil defense of its clients. He will add valuable courtroom experience, trial skills and legal knowledge to the firm.. Along with his dedication to the practice of law, Mark actively participates in various civic and non-profit organizations, serving many of them in leadership roles. He is committed to giving back to the community and serving under resourced individuals.
