Mr. Matthew J. He graduated with high honors from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa, and from Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. He clerked for the Federal Defender of Oregon, the United States District Court (Hon. Stacie F. Beckerman), and provided pro bono legal services to indigent people. He has served the courts and community as a juvenile court lawyer, an appellate attorney, and as a public defender. His practice has, until recently, been largely focused on litigation and trial work. He has had an unusually winning trial practice, drawing praise from colleagues, judges, and opponents for his strong work ethic, expansive knowledge of the science of persuasion, and good tactical judgment.
