After gaining 13 years’ experience as a collaborative law divorce attorney, litigator and mediator with extensive experience representing families in Plano, Richardson, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, and Dallas in Texas courts, Sharon Corsentino made the decision to dedicate her practice exclusively to mediation. Sharon recognizes the value of taking a non-adversarial approach to family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and child support, to help parties maintain long-term relationships and keep children’s best interests at heart.. Sharon helps couples settle their disputes privately in a dignified manner, without involving a judge who could impose decisions on them that do not meet their needs. Recognizing the value of allowing parties to craft their own settlements to meet their specific needs, Sharon’s approach generally results in unique settlements that truly address the interests and concerns of all parties.. Sharon completed the 40-hour civil mediation and 24-hour family law mediation training in 2008 and regularly attends seminars and conferences focusing on alternative dispute resolution techniques. She is licensed to practice in Texas state courts, in the federal district courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas, and the Supreme Court of the United States.. Since 2014, Sharon has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas teaching family law mediation. Sharon was an adjunct professor in the Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution Program at El Centro College, a part of the Dallas County Community College District in Dallas, Texa
About Me? Let me tell you a quick story . . .. I was working as a lawyer, representing whoever needed me for whatever they needed me for. And I found that, well, people don't like lawyers very much.. In fact, when I told my uncle I was going to law school, he stopped and stared at me, then said "People don't like those folks much. Why would you want to do that?". I didn't have an answer. You'd think I would have taken the hint.. Well, after a few miserable years as a lawyer, I decided enough is enough. If I am going to practice law, I am going to do it the right way -- the way people will like, and in a way people will like me, and enjoy having me help them.. First, no more stop watches. I decided no more hourly bills. People need their problems solved, they aren't buying hours, they buy solutions and peace of mind. Unless we are in litigation, I give you a fixed price for the solution to your needs!. Next, I wanted to fundamentally help families and kids. This meant focusing on their finances and their family legal safety. Basic stuff like: How am I going to care for those cute babies after a car wreck takes mom and dad away? These are things a lawyer should worry about for a family.. If the family is in transition, this means working through a process using Wevorce to create a new world where the power is found in love, and not the love of power over the family members. A world in which the family decides to retain the power and not give it to divorce attorneys, judges and their courts.. Also, if the family has a business, I want to be there to help make it successful and well-protected. I want to use my creativity to ensure the entrepreneurs in the clan can do that, and not worry about legal issues all day!. To read more about my transformation as a person and as a lawyer, please check out the rest of the site and come see me!. Yours,. Jac. P.S.. I graduated from Southern Methodist University with a double major, one in Accounting and one in Marketing. From there, I got an MBA at University of Dallas, and finished with a JD at Texas A&M University School of Law, which used to be call Texas Wesleyan.. My two kids keep me very busy with soccer tournaments, cello and violin concerts, topped off by a long list of other teenage activities.. I love to assist the Legal Aid organization serving North Texas as much as possible. This provides a tremendous opportunity to help those who cannot afford a lawyer. It's very satisfying work and beneficial to the community.
