Jessica’s passion for family law began after witnessing the heartache her brother experienced. At the time, he was a young single dad. He fought for his right to see his young daughter through the Court system for over a year. While he finally won his case, Jessica felt that battle he endured was a travesty for him and his daughter. As a solo practitioner, she found herself fighting for families even while she was handling criminal cases. She would help her clients resolve their criminal matters so they could be better family members.. She found it rewarding to help families and individuals work out their problems so they can be the best parents for their children. As she began to approach every case this way, she also became acutely aware of the emotions and battles her clients navigate. Jessica chose Meriwether and Tharp, LLC because of their holistic, resolution-focused approach to family law, and the firm’s desire to better serve their client’s ultimate goals and needs. I'm an Atlanta native, but I've never lived in the actual city of Atlanta. I like to fish, ride bicycles and motorcycles, and play with cars - driving them, working on them, just looking at them, talking about them, etc. I love target shooting. My husband and I have his daughter from his first marriage, a son-in-law, and two wonderful grandkids. I know from experience what the issues created by a blended family situation are, which helps me immeasurably when dealing with clients who are part of them. I read insatiably and I try to learn at least one truly new thing everyday, so I read everything from materials which help keep me up to date in my law practice to books and articles about things which I just find interesting, like quantum physics, thermodynamics, marketing, history, other cultures, and studies about how the mind works. I also believe strongly that we should all attempt to be as polite, fair, honest, and morally and ethically correct as possible in our everyday lives, and I try to live by that belief.

I grew up in Toledo, Ohio. I knew from when I was young I wanted to be an attorney. I received bachelor degrees from Miami (OH) University in 1998, graduating cum laude. I then went on to attend law school at Wake Forest University School of Law where I earned my Juris Doctor in 2001. Shortly after graduating law school, I passed the Georgia Bar and began my career.. I have been practicing law continuously since 2001. During the first 14½ years my practice was focused on representing companies and insurers in personal injury actions. My specialty was defending truck drivers, motor carriers, and their insurers. For the most part, I enjoyed the legal work but the case’s results often left me empty and unfulfilled. When I did my job well, an injured person’s recovery was limited or, in some cases, eliminated. I needed to make a change, and I did. In 2015, I transformed my practice. Instead of representing companies and insurers, I changed to filing lawsuits against them. I enjoy being part of the solution instead of one of the many obstacles standing between the injured person and their just compensation.. When I am not practicing law, I can be found in Alpharetta spending time with my wife and two kids. My weekends are spent on soccer fields and/or basketball courts. If I am not with my family, I am likely cheering on my beloved Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Guardians.
I enjoy practicing law. I've had some good jobs in my life but seeing a deserving injured plaintiff hold a wrongdoer accountable in a court of law is like Christmas morning with your two year old toddler. It doesn't get much better!
