Jeff is originally from the heart of the Rocky Mountains, where self-reliance and individual determination is a way of life, just like it is in Alaska. At a young age he served our country while on active duty in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman/surgical medic. For six years he worked in the surgical and post-surgical areas of Naval Hospitals in California, earning a Vocational Nursing license along the way. It was that interest in working with patients that led to his achieving a bachelor’s degree in Hospital Management and Health Care Administration, from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.. However, Jeff always knew he wanted to be an attorney and to help people. Graduating in the upper half of his class at the University of Wyoming, College of Law; Jeff then completed a highly competitive Masters in Law or L.L.M. in American Indian and Indigenous Persons Law from the University of Tulsa, College of Law. This was a very rich and rewarding experience that took him on a course that would not only take him permanently to Alaska but would also form his life work representing folks that often can’t get the legal help they need and deserve.. After completing his legal education Jeff spent many years representing the thirty-one federally recognized tribes and individual people throughout Bristol Bay working as General Counsel for the Bristol Bay Native Association. Later, he helped less fortunate people with their housing needs as Chief Counsel for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in Anchorage.. Seeking to gain insight into the insurance world, Jeff began defending lawsuits filed against people insured through a large national auto insurance carrier. I’m a lifelong resident of Alaska. Prior to receiving my law degree I was an Illustrator for Dungeons & Dragons (1st edition).

I graduated from Berkeley Law in 2001 and then moved to Alaska to clerk for the Alaska Supreme Court. I owned a law firm for 13 years, where I practiced primarily immigration law. In 2018, I began working at Shaftel Delman, LLC, where I continued my immigration practice and also practiced estate planning, business law, and probate/trust administration. I joined Durrell Law Group in April 2020, where I continue to practice in these areas of law.. On a personal note, I am married and have two school-aged children. As a family we enjoy getting into the outdoors skiing, camping, hiking, and mountain biking. I had never been to Alaska before 2001 and had not planned on staying beyond my one year clerkship. But I fell in love with Alaska and now consider it home.

I focus my practice on complex litigation. I have  experience working as a judicial clerk for both the Honorable Mark Rindner and the Honorable Larry R. Weeks. I worked in the Washington State Attorney General's Office where I researched environmental issues pertaining to CERCLA, CWA, Shoreline Management Act and Solid Waste Management Act.

I bring my diverse experience in the public and private sectors to my active trial practice. Elected to the Anchorage Assembly in 2007, I served the Municipality of Anchorage as its first acting Mayor from January to June 2009. I work with the Firm's Commercial Litigation Practice Group and regularly provide legal advise to individuals and small businesses. I also work as an arbitrator and a mediator.

I am a lifelong Alaskan, married for to the same woman for 44 years, have 2 adult children and two grandchildren. I grew up in Southeast Alaska where I worked as a fisherman and logger before becoming a lawyer. These experiences help me understand the very real problems my clients face regularly.. After more than a decade in the United States Army I made the decision to leave the military and pursue a new career in the law.  I completed my undergraduate work at the University of Alaska Anchorage and traveled with my wife and two small children to Macon, Georgia.  I graduated cum laude from Merrcer University's Walter F. George School of Law in 1999.. Following my graduation from Mercer, I accepted a position with a top national firm in their Atlanta office, focusing on product liability and complex commercial litigation.  Over the course of five years at this firm I represented pharmaceutical manufacturers, contruction product manufacturers, and commercial enterprises involved in high stakes litigation. I represented these clients from the initial pleadings, through the discovery process, the hearing process, the mediation process, and the trial process.  During this period I learned how to properly evaluate cases and advise clients about the strengths of their case and the risks associated with their litigation.  I learned to handle matters efficiently and to pursue the client's goals by involving the client in each important decision, working with the other attorneys in the case when possible, and ardently and aggressively opposing those attorneys when my clients' needs demanded it.. For the full five years in Atlanta I also volunteered 200-300 hours per year with the Atlanta Family Court as a Guardian Ad Litem, representing the best interests of the child in divorces and other custody disputes..
