In January 2012, I founded The Law Offices of Lisa Gagliano Bernstein, which is a sole practitioner firm specializing in the fields of real estate, estate planning, probate, and family law. I infuse each case I handle with a solid work ethic, advanced writing skills, practical application of the law and personal client service. My previous practice taught me to aggressively but strategically help clients navigate their way through the legal process and how to efficiently and promptly respond to my clients. My experience allows me to draft, argue, and respond to both simple and complex legal documents. I have a proven ability to produce under tight deadlines and due to my experience in many different fields of law, I'm well-equipped to manage a wide range of matters.. Real Estate:-Represent clients in residential real estate purchases and sales, including review of contract of sale, negotiate inspection issues, determine compliance with contract, assist with lender requirements, evaluate evidence of title, perform title exam, clear title exceptions, and attend closing.. Estate Planning:-Consult with clients to determine estate planning goals, draft living trusts, wills, and powers of attorney, and fund living trusts with real property, stocks, and life insurance.. Probate:-Handle probate court matters, and prepare documents to open, administer and close probate estates.. Family Law:-Draft and present divorce petitions and judgments, negotiate divorce settlements, and appear in court to argue motions to modify child support and other post-judgment divorce issues. I handle related and unrelated adoption actions by drafting and presenting petitions for adoption and judgment orders in court, acquiring consent from biological parent, and obtaining certificates of adoption.
I enjoy practicing in the area of family law very much. I get to engage with my client's and really put myself alonside them in the trenches. I can empathize with my client's and I can also lay out a strategy for which we will be taking on some of these obstacles in the family court proceedings. I want to make my client's comfortable with what is going on and I will give everybody the respect they deserve. This is a stressful time, you do not need a lawyer who will patronize you but one that gets you. The more you can understand the process, the better you will be able to prioritize all of your goals. I look forward to talking with you.
I am a trial lawyer, devoting 100% of my practice to litigation. I practice in the areas of personal injury, including auto accidents, premises liability/slip and fall cases, dog bite/Animal Control Act cases, cases involving pharmacy mistakes, medical negligence, nursing home negligence, wrongful death cases, and appeals. I am a staunch advocate of client’s rights as victims of negligence in personal injury cases, and also of patient rights in the context of personal injury litigation.. I pride myself most in my relationships with my clients, and my persistence in fighting against the large insurance companies, corporations, and even physicians who attempt to take advantage of victims of personal injury. I care about my clients and their legal rights at a very personal level and spend a great deal of time with my clients from the beginning of their case through the end.. I was born in Decatur, Illinois. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Augustana College, with a concentration in Spanish, and my Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University School of Law.. Attorney Cynthia Toscano believes in the power of new beginnings. Having witnessed her own parents navigate a complex divorce in a system they struggled to understand, she knows firsthand how overwhelming family law matters can feel. This personal experience shaped her mission: to help families navigate legal transitions from a place of empowerment rather than fear.. During her first year at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, Cynthia discovered her calling while volunteering at the Self Help Web Center. Helping self-represented individuals with court forms opened her eyes to the profound need for compassionate family law attorneys, especially within the Spanish-speaking immigrant community. This experience, combined with her own family's journey, cemented her decision to dedicate her career to family law.. Some of Cynthia's proudest moments as an attorney came early in her career. Less than two years after becoming licensed, she successfully led her first trial against a founding partner of an established firm. In another memorable case, she helped her client secure a portion of valuable real estate holdings by successfully challenging an international prenuptial agreement. These victories reinforced her belief that thorough preparation and unwavering advocacy can level any playing field.. Her connection to the community runs deep. As a first-generation American, college graduate, and attorney, Cynthia draws inspiration from the strength and resilience she witnesses not only from the members of her community, but from all clients she has the privilege of assisting as they navigate profound life changes.. Cynthia lives in the Chicagoland area with her high school sweetheart and their three children. When she's not in court or meeting with clients, you'll find her cheering from the sidelines as a dedicated soccer mom, discovering new restaurants throughout the city, or curling up with a good book. She particularly loves Chicago's vibrant cultural diversity and access to Lake Michigan's shores, though she occasionally loves to escape to various cities throughout her native Mexico.
