My father became disabled when my sisters and I were young. Our family nearly lost everything, but my parents got good legal advice and persevered. My mother became a paralegal for the attorney who helped us. My father became our hero who preserved our future through wisdom, frugality and dignity. And I became a lawyer who truly understands when serious personal injuries hit home.. Today, as a father myself, I passionately strive to help those who suffer disabling personal injuries or the loss of a loved one find justice, while working to protect children from carelessness.

I have been litigating commercial and securities matters since 1983. First in Houston, then in D.C., I had the opportunity to work with some of the nation’s most gifted leaders pinioned at the intersection of high finance and investment and legal thought. These lawyers included a former General Counsel at the SEC, which whom I had the privilege of working for a number of years. I have represented clients in the finance and investment sphere for 20 years.. My focus in the area of investment disputes was triggered by a case that involved three elderly couples and an elderly widow who were defrauded their highly trusted stock broker. The experience broke their lives in so many ways; first financially, then socially, ultimately stealing their faith and hope. It was heart wrenching and intolerable. While working at two large law firms I was involved in cases concerning hundreds of millions of dollars, but handing a check representing the return of a substantial part of their investment losses to Mr. and Mrs. Bridgers (age 92 and 90) is still the most satisfying moment of my career.

I grew up in Asheville, NC and did my undergrad at UNC-Chapel Hill, earning a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Geography.  Following graduation, I worked with the Carolina Covenant Scholarship program at UNC as an assistant to the director and mentor to the Covenant scholars. In this position, I led a task force to narrow the academic achievement gap between students from low-income families and the student body at large. My research efforts and statistical analyses of the Covenant student population lead to the implementation of a proactive, predictive mentorship approach that engages students before they begin to struggle.. During law school, I spent a summer clerking for a business litigation law firm and an academic year working for the school’s pro bono Community Economic Development Clinic. During the clinics, I assisted numerous socially-minded businesses with their legal issues, including a mobile farmers market that sells locally sourced produce and agricultural products to areas in the Charlotte Mecklenburg region designated as food deserts; a nonprofit that makes the wishes of terminally ill children come true; and a nonprofit corporation which provides job training to returning citizens and connects these individuals to jobs in the green skills industry that pay a living wage. In addition, I spent time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity drafting wills, powers of attorney, and living wills, as well as assisting with construction.. Through my experiences in school and in practice, I have acquired extensive knowledge in the areas of law concerning business, construction, trademarks, immigration, and family law. I've has also handled traffic matters, drafted and executed Wills and Powers of Attorney, conducted residential real estate closings, registered trademarks and copyrights, filed mechanic’s liens and lien waivers, represented clients in small claims court and Superior Court, negotiated various settlement demands, and helped clients obtain their citizenship, to name a few.. I spend my free time scoping out local restaurants and breweries, and watching and playing soccer with my fiancée. I'm a supporter of the Charlotte Independence and Seattle Sounders FC.
