Instead, I want to first understand the situation, then come up with a plan designed to get the best possible outcome for the person I am representing.. I am very lucky. I continue to enjoy my job, even after 36 years. Anyone reading this who is facing criminal charges should contact my office to discuss your situation. I look forward to hearing from you.

I have been a solo practitioner or a partner in a small law firm since graduating from Emory law school in 1988. It is my philosophy to give each client as much individual attention as their case needs for a successful conclusion. In immigration matters, I also advise clients when they have no case to remain in the United States, rather than take a case and say, "sorry," thousands of dollars later. It is better for clients' interests that the client take his or her hard earned money to their home country to start a new life rather than to spend it on a "wild goose chase" with the Federal Government.. I spend little time promoting myself for the benefit of the general public and for my peers, unlike many others in this profession. I find excessive lawyer advertising to be demeaning to the profession and often misleading. I only engage in it minimally in order to allow existing clients and referrals to find me. I do host an occasional radio show in Spanish.. Outside of my law practice, I am an avid golfer and fly fisherman, and a world traveller.
I have been a lawyer for 37 years. I became a family law attorney because I love helping people get through what can be one of the worst times of their lives with strength, dignity and grace. Helping my clients get back on their feet as they go through the divorce process is often the most satisfying part of my job.
I have been a construction lawyer for 24 years. Before becoming a lawyer, I was an estimator and project manager in commercial construction.
I have 35 years experience in litigation of all types in State and Federal courts in Georgia. I strive to give each client personalized atttention.
I grew up between Brooklyn, New York and Long Island. I attended New York University on an academic scholarship as the first in my family to graduate from college. You can say I beat the odds.. After graduating from NYU, I moved to Atlanta in 2000 to pursue a career in IT with IBM. While working at IBM, I started a successful promotions company, as a side interest, that would teach me so much about people and Atlanta as a whole. Despite this success, I decided to pursue a lifelong goal of becoming an attorney. I graduated from Georgia State University College of Law at the top of my class. In my practice, I combine my understanding of my city (Atlanta) and the inherent toughness gained from my childhood neighborhood to provide zealous advocacy for my clients. As my legal career continues, I continue to be active in my community and hope to inspire the next generation of attorneys.
I focus my practice on real estate closings and community association law, specifically homeowners associations, condominium associations, and commercial associations, including mixed use, "green", and age-restricted community documents. I help homeowners, developers, lenders, and others in creating, interpreting, enforcing, and administering these documents, including compliance with the Georgia Condominium Act, the Georgia POA Act (particuarly in adopting its terms), and other statutes that may apply. As well, I assist in navigating the practicalities of running an association, including dealing with calling annual meetings, holding elections, or creating comitteess.. In 2013, Andersen, Tate & Carr, P.C. named me the head of its residential and construction closing practice group.. In addition, I have also mediated real-estate related disputes, with an emphasis on finding cost effective and realistic solutions. Using the insights I have learned through my representation of homeowners, lenders, developers, builders and association board members I am able to share perspectives that otherwise might not have been considered to bring parties closer together.. One of my toughest projects was to be part of the team, led by Thomas J. Andersen, responsible for negotiating and closing the purchase of the Beltline by one of our firm's clients in 2004 (Atlanta Business Chronicle’s "Deal of the Year 2004") and to remain involved with the continuing complex development issues that arose from the Beltline, including its sale to another development entity in late 2007 (the sale was listed in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s "Deal Makers" list, March 2008).
I focus on devising efficient, effective and creative solutions to complex legal problems. Whether dealing with transactions or litigation, I counsel my clients to assume very little and to be realistic in their plans and expectations. I further advise them that they must be honest with me in order to enable me to maximize my effectiveness in providing legal representation to them.
I enjoy practicing family law (many lawyers don't). I often present CLE seminars and always learn so much when I prepare my remarks.. I grew up in New Orleans (yes, I am a long suffering Saints fan whose suffering has ended) and have lived in Atlanta since I started law school at Emory in 1985.. What sets our firm apart from many, is how many resources we have to help you. In addition to 13 lawyers who all specialize in family law, we have 15 staff members including paralegals, law clerks and others and we maintain close relationships with many forensic accountants, psychologists and private investigators to ensure we can meet our clients' needs on a moment's notice.

I am so blessed to have the privilege to advocate for families in Georgia. In my practice of restructuring families, I have had the opportunity to represent both husbands and wives and mothers and fathers in their divorces, legitimations, child custody matters, child support modifications and paternity actions. These representations include the prosecution and defense of these matters. While every case is different, many of the cases are ripe for resolution short of litigation. However, some of them must be litigated to the fullest extent in a courtroom. When you decide to hire hlg you are investing in attorneys who recognize that this is already a difficult time in your life and you need intelligent legal counsel with true compassion. I offer this delicate balance of strong and tenacious representation with comfort and respect for the very delicate subject matter. I work hard to ensure that the legal process understood so you can be prepared.. I bring a diverse perspective to assist our clients in their personal injury matters. We assist clients in various personal injury matters including car accidents, slip and falls, malicious prosecution, negligent security and other matters. We work efficiently to ensure the clients have as much knowledge about the process – including “behind the scene” knowledge. We go above and beyond the requirement and deliver professional and personal attention. An example of this stellar service is that we always attempt to reduce medical bills to ensure as much money as possible goes directly to the client even though it does not increase the amount of money we receive. While we strive to resolve claims as soon as practical, we refuse to settle an unfair claim, thus, many of our matters have to move forward in litigation.. To conclude our family representation, we also offer estate-planning service, including simple wills.. I began my career as a bond attorney where I served as counsel for governments and other entities who borrowed money for public purposes. I learned so much from this practice but I believe my major lesson was refining my case management and document drafting skills.. I look forward to utilizing all of my training to work for you!
