I practice law to help people and organizations resolve their disputes over money, property, or legal rights.  Sometimes, that just requires giving advice, writing a letter, or negotiating.  When it requires more, I draw on almost 20 years of experience as a litigator in state and federal courts across Texas.

I practice family law, including litigation, Collaborative Family Law and Limited Scope Representation.  I also mediates family law cases and Special Education cases as a contractor to the Texas Education Agency.

I love the practice of law and I very much enjoy practicing at Minton, Bassett, Flores and Carsey (MBFC).  I have the privilege of practicing with fine attorneys, while working on serious, complex criminal and civil cases.  My father, Roy, my brother, David, and my law partners Rip, John, Sam, Rick, Zooey and Jason - make up an incredible pool of talent to strategize with or build a trial team.. I also enjoy working with clients to give their criminal or family law issues a positive outcome.  Most legal problems can be worked out between the parties, but there are some that cannot - and therefore must be tried to a judge or jury.. Our firm is ready to do what it takes in either circumstance.

I love Texas.  Part of my childhood memories belong to the great NYC, but the majority of my life has been tied into the state of Texas.  I have lived in Houston, Austin, Lubbock,  El Paso, Dallas, San Antonio, back to Lubbock, back to El Paso and now Austin and El Paso.  Each city has impacted my life in memorable ways.. My firm has put up with me for over 13 years :) . I say that only because they have have watched me travel through a majority of their offices due to my husband's military committment.  Time really does fly by when you work at a firm that treats you like family.  My background makes me unique in my field as I understand both the legal and accounting side of personal injury.  Before I became an Attorney, I worked in a very large medical system dealing with accounting and finance.  I understand numbers and the lingo which in turn helps my client understand their case and their case value.  Some firms don't undertand how health insurance works or what balance billing means which in turn costs you more money down the road.  Medical expenses have increased drastically.  Health Insurance has gotten so complicated that most people do not understand how their health insurance works.  Doctor's medical bills are complicated to understand.  I am here to bridge together all those things and much much more.. I love practicing personal injury law, and I am good at it. My focus is my ability to tell your story. This is what we're good at.. I teach other plaintiff lawyers in Texas how to present their clients' damages in the most effective way. I tend to look at cases visually and get to know each of my clients and their families in order to understand what the collision or the injury has done to their world. Often the contrast between pre-collision and post-collision is dramatic. If I can show that contrast, then the insurance companies realize that the case is quite real, and they realize that they now have an opportunity to help you. If they balk at that opportunity to help, then we give that opportunity to a jury.. The effectiveness of how we tell your story is what will make a jury empathize with what has happened to you; juries will help when they understand the harms you have suffered.. I like meeting and working with our creative inventor clients because I get to translate their creativity into formal language and make persuasive legal arguments to the Patent and Trademark Office. I have been practacing law since 1979, and am admitted to practice in all Texas Courts and before the Western, Southern, Northern and Eastern United States District Courts. In addition, I have appeared before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. I hail from Lubbock, Texas, where I became a Red Raider at Texas Tech for both my undergraduate and law degrees.  After becoming involved with the West Texas Innocence Project in Lubbock, I decided that I wanted to practice criminal defense and provide a voice for the citizen accused.. I moved to the Dallas area to become a public defender for Kaufman County after law school and handled nearly every type of offense there as First Assistant Public Defender.  In 2010 I moved to Austin to come to work at the Law Office of Jamie Balagia, where I received specialized training in the defense of DWIs.. I am proud to have recently opened my own law practice where I will continue to serve Texans accused of all criminal offenses and the problems that stem from these kind of issues.  I have handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases in my four years of practicing law and love nothing more than helping defend the rights of others.. Personally, I am all about friends and family, love the arts, reading, and traveling.

I grew up on a ranch in La Grange, Texas.  Population: 4,675.. After graduating from the University of Texas, I traveled to Lubbock where I obtained my Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University in 2015.. I have been at The Gottfried Firm since August 2015 and am the first attorney in my family.. In my free time, I enjoy attending concerts and sporting events and spending time with my friends and family.
