After working for a couple of small firms in Austin since 2005, I started my own practice in the summer of 2009. After a year and a half of the cowboy life of a solo attorney, I joined NEMSB in March 2011. We are a 8-attorney family-law firm, growing fast and providing top-level representation for folks with complex divorces and child custody situations. Additionally, I offer mediation services to the family law community in the Greater Austin region. If you ever have any kind of legal issue, I hope you'll give me a call. I feel comfortable saying I can put you in touch with the right attorney, well tailored to the legal issue and amount in controversy.
After thirty years of practice, having been licensed in Law School as a student working for the U.S. Attorney, Fourth Court of Appeals and Legal Aid, I have practiced in most areas of Law. In 1986 at the request of my aunt and uncle I moved to Pennsylvania to help them with their antique business. I became licensed in Pennsylvania and worked for two judges, one criminal and one civil. My job was to draft opinions of the judges after researching the law and recommending the outcome of the rulings based on the research. I was also appointed a Master for the Courts after serving on panels with other attorneys in matters that would be considered small claims or county court level in Texas. I withdrew my license in Pennslyvania after coming back to Texas since I missed my family and friends, beside wanting a warmer climate.. Once back in San Antonioi,Texas in 1988, I began my solo practice with several other former fellow students at St. Mary's Law School. We consulted with each other and helped with referals and support. I moved to another location when my practice grew, then a former fellow student bought a building and wanted me to be his tenant. During my early years I practiced in Contract Law, Torts (Personal Injury), Real Estate, Criminal and Family Law. A few years later I focused on Real Estate and Probate, but I still assisted clients in other areas that were affected by their needs.. Recently I moved to Austin where I have been representing real estate developers, entrepreneaurs and investors. I supply funds for their ventures that I form and help businesses and individuals with their real estate and investment needs. Although I still practice in several areas of law, generally I advise those who need my experience and knowledge in most areas of law as a consultant or drafter of legal agreements.
After spending many years representing large companies in litigation matters, I decided to turn my focus to individuals, families and small to mid-sized businesses. In 2011, I opened my firm in central Austin and began advising clients in the areas of estate planning/Wills, probate and business law matters.. On the estate planning side, I help clients navigate through the sometimes emotional process of determining how they want their property to pass at their death, who will take care of their minor children in the event of their untimely death, appointing agents to act on their behalf during life in the event of incapacity and generational wealth planning. I represent traditional families, blended families, single individuals and LGBT families. Each of these groups have their own individual set of considerations that must be fully thought through before an adequate plan can be put in place.. On the probate side, I assist clients in the entire probate process. This includes advising Executors and Administrators before the application to probate the Will or determine who the heirs are is filed, preparing them for the hearing and handling the post-hearing matters. I also assist clients in preparing the transfer documents that are necessary to effectuate their loved one's wishes. I assist Executors and Administrators in handling debt issues and distributing the estate to the beneficiaries or heirs. In the probate context, I also handle non-administration matters as well, including: small estate affidavits, affidavits of heirship, determinations of heirship without an administration, and probating will as a muniment of title. Finally, I advise clients in the area of guardianship.. My business clients range from small start up companies to mid-sized companies. Typical matters include: advising on entity formation, drafting and advising on formation documents and implementation of the same, advising on implementation of probate matters as it relates to employees, review/drafting of contracts and other general business matters.
After more than two decades as an attorney, most of them serving as Assistant General Counsel at a large Texas non-profit association, I decided to open my own firm so that I could provide very affordable assistance to small businesses and non-profits. I specialize in basic corporate and business issues, human resource support and non-profit law.. I'm passionate about creating contracts in Plain English that clearly reflect the deal at hand. I've helped clients understand how to successfully navigate contracts on their own so that they are less intimidated by basic contracts and more self-sufficient when it comes to protecting their business.. As an accredited human resources professional (PHR), I'm able to fully support businesses with HR administrative issues. My passion for clear, concise language extends to employee handbooks and policies.. As a trainer, I specialize in:. - contract interpretation. - management issues, including diversity issues. - fiduciary responsibility training for board members and key executive staff
After law school, I founded a computer OEM/White Box manufacturing company in Austin, Texas which I ran successfully for 8 years. During that time, I really learned what it takes to operate a business, which is why my clients are so happy with my bills. Well, not really happy, but they appreciate all the work I do to keep their costs down - one case my firm was involved in which settled last year, my client spent less than one-half of what the opposing side spent on attorneys' fees - the secret - we don't nickle and dime and automate a lot of the practice, passing the savings on to our clients. Of course, litigation is still expensive and to be avoided unless absolutely necessary.. We also help people injured in Texas - all of Texas. I'm very passionate about helping the injured, many of whom are in serious financial difficulty because of someone else's carelessness, sometimes even lacking health insurance. Unfortantely, "tort reform" in Texas has made it even harder for hard-working, honest people to have their day in court - and frankly, it pisses me off. I also get steamed when insurance companies make low ball offers to my clients. We work hard for all our clients, but we don't take on every case.. We do provide free information on our website for auto accident injuries and a legal blog with information about what's going on in tort (harm) law. You can get free resources without having to speak to a lawyer - just go to the website or call 1-888-HURT-007.. Cheers,. Andrew

29 years of practice is a long time. Many things change but one does not; respect, the right to fight, and the right to an attorney who will fight for you. I have seen my share of the innocent accused, pre-judged by those who seem to believe that the police (or they) never make mistakes. My job is to expose them. Everyone deserves a helping hand now and then.
*Please note that I represent tenants only, not landlords.. My goal is make sure all individuals with legal problems have access to the legal help they need. I offer individuals straight-forward, flat-rate billing options at prices they can afford. No more surprise bills at the end of your representation. If you have a serious legal problem and are worried about having the funds to get help, let me work with you. We can arrange something to make us both happy.. I am not your typical attorney. My journey to the legal field was a strange one. After studying biochemistry and gene therapy, I decided the lab environment wasn't for me. I looked into becoming a patent agent so I could help new inventors protect their ideas and start businesses.. I joined an existing Intellectual Property law firm and enjoyed the work. I decided to pursue a legal degree and become an attorney. After 3 1/2 years of night school, I received my license. While attending school, my interests expanded beyond patent law but always remained focused on the individual.. However, the firm's clients were primarily larger oil and gas clients rather than the individuals on which I wanted to focus. I left the firm to start my own practice. Let me know how I can help you.
