Prior to attending law school, I earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Texas. For over fifteen years, I worked as a licensed mental health therapist in schools serving children who qualified for special education due to emotional and behavioral disabilities. I went to law school knowing that I would be able to use the knowledge I had as a counselor and educational consultant to help children and families. I attended the evening program at Seattle University School of Law, and continued to work full-time as a mental health specialist for Kent School District.. I am excited to serve children and families who need the assistance of an educational attorney. I really enjoy helping families navigate the complexities of the schools and special education because the results are practical and I get to see children succeed. I worked as a consultant for public schools for many years, so my experience is grounded in an understanding of the culture of schools as well as knowledge about the law. Parents often feel outnumbered and misunderstood. I help my clients who are facing discipline, special education, or other school-related issues and would benefit from legal counsel.. Most recently, I was the program attorney for Family Law CASA of King County. Family Law CASA is a non-profit that provides court-appointed, volunteer guardian ad litem services in low-income family law cases. The role of the agency is to protect the needs of children in family law disputes. My role at the agency was to represent both the program and the volunteer assigned to the case in court. Often during divorce proceedings, the needs of the children are easily diluted in the face of the better articulated needs of their parents. My job was to ensure that the focus of the case remained on the best interests of those children. As part of that process, I encouraged parents, even in dire situations, to better see and acknowledge the needs and interests of their children. My experience in court and at family law mediations gives me the practical understanding of how to effectively represent clients in the divorce process. This experience guides my work with my clients, allowing me to translate the often foreign legal process into understandable steps. I listen to what my clients say about what they need, and about their fears and concerns. I work with them to develop a plan to navigate the legal process in order to create a positive outcome for themselves and their families. My goal is to provide my clients with thorough information and preparation and to help them to feel knowledgeable and empowered, so that the often painful process of moving out of a marriage or partnership is made easier and more successful.
Practicing family law gives Austin divorce attorney Jillian French the opportunity to help people through a very difficult time. Family law deals with someone’s entire life and should be treated with the upmost importance.”. Ms. French prides herself on being a good listener and problem solver. She will do whatever she can to help her clients reach their goals, but she makes sure they are realistic about what to expect during their case.. “I’m very honest with my clients about the likelihood of winning a certain argument,” she said. “I think it is important to manage client expectations.”. By communicating clearly and openly with her clients, Ms. French ensures she is prepared to provide the best representation possible.. “I tell my potential clients that I am someone who will listen to their concerns and look for any argument I can, that is allowed by the current statutory and case law, to fight for their interests,” she said. “I also listen to any of their concerns about budget and/or going to court to determine how to best handle their case.”

I’ve never been one to stay in a single lane. I’ve worked as a criminal prosecutor, run multiple businesses, and homeschooled my kids — all while building systems that make life and work actually function.. That same energy fuels TrustStone Legal. I started this practice to help people protect what matters most, without pressure or pretense. Some attorneys offer one-size-fits-all plans. I don’t. I figure out what you need — and if it’s not something I’ve done before, I’ll learn it, build it, or find the right way to get it done.. As I built my own law firm from the ground up — creating workflows, simplifying decisions, and finding smarter ways to run things — I started having the same conversations with other business owners. They were stuck in the same mess I had just worked through. I created Moxie in Motion (a non-legal arm of TrustStone) to fill that gap: a second venture focused on systems, strategy, and solving the behind-the-scenes overwhelm so many small business owners carry alone.. All of my work is grounded in real-life experience, thoughtful strategy, and a talent for seeing beyond the way it’s always been done — to find what fits each client and how we can get it done, and get it done right.. Legal care doesn’t have to be cold, confusing, or cookie-cutter. I bring sharp thinking, real-world perspective, and the flexibility to get it right — even if we have to flip the table, break the mold, and chase down a flying pig or two.. I’m the managing partner of my family of four. I love nature, animals, silly art projects, solving problems, and creating just about anything. When I’m not working, I’m all mom. In rare moments of rest, you’ll find me floating in the pool—strategizing my next adventure… or maybe just dinner.. My mission for TrusStone:. To shake the dust off legal support — making it personal, practical, and powerful. I’m here to help people protect what matters, build boldly, and navigate complex systems with clarity and care. Because the people I serve need more than just paperwork — they need a partner who listens, adapts, and gets it done right.
In addition to being licensed in Texas, Colorado, and Utah, I am also a Registered Patent Attorney. I am licensed in the following US District Courts: Northern, Southern, Western, and Eastern Districts of Texas; and Colorado. I am licensed in the following US Court of Appeals: Fifth, Tenth, and Federal Circuits. And, I am licensed in the US Supreme Court.
I've dedicated my career to the practice of family law. I strongly believe that divorce is a very personal matter and recognize the difficulty that clients face as they make long-lasting financial decisions, often in the midst of personal turmoil.. Having a knowledgeable attorney is important; but having a strong litigator who knows the law, and understands finances and family dynamics can be the difference between just surviving a divorce and starting a new and better chapter of a client's life.. I work in family law litigation and collaborative family law, I am licensed with the State Bar of Texas, the District of Columbia Bar, and the State Bar of Virginia. I am board certified in Family Law, Texas Board of Legal Specialization 2008 and in 2004 I was named a Texas Rising Star by Texas Super Lawyers and Texas Monthly Magazine. I have been an associate in three firms and Owner/Principle of two, Ravdin & Wofford (Washington, D.C.) and CAPPS LAW FIRM, P.L.L.C. (Austin, TX).
I'm a native Austinite. I've been representing individuals and small business on a contingent fee basis since 1998. I handle personal injury claims, wrongful death claims, legal and professional malpractice claims, commercial disputes, defamation claims, contract claims and a variety of other claims.
I was born and raised in Odessa, Texas and graduated from Permian high School in 1978. I then attended the University of Texas at Austin where I received my BBA in Petroleum Land Management in 1983. Following undergraduate school I attended the University of Texas Law School, graduating in 1986. After law school I went on active duty with the United States Marine Corps where I served as a Judge Advocate General. It was in United States Marine Corps that I developed my love for the courtroom and my desire to be a trial lawyer.. After being honorably discharged from the Marines in 1990, I returned to Austin and began work at the firm of Ford & Ferraro (currently Fritz, Byrne, Head and Harrison). There, I represented insurance companies and their insureds in a variety of cases, primarily personal injuries. In 1996, I left the law firm and became a solo practitioner representing individuals (plaintiffs) against insurance companies and their insureds. I have been a plaintiffs’ attorney for the past 25 years.. During my now 25+ year practice as a plaintiff’s attorney, I have represented clients in matters involving injuries and death caused by car and truck accidents, medical malpractice, defective products, shoddy construction, boating accidents, dog bites and host of other causes. I have also successfully represented clients in employment disputes, contract disputes, deceptive trade practice cases and real estate disputes.. My philosophy for handling plaintiff’s cases is simple and straightforward: every client who I have the privilege of representing is entitled to first rate representation and personalized service. Clients are entitled to have their day in court to see that justice is done.
I was an Assistant District Attorney for 24 years. I left the Travis County District Attorney's Office and now serve the citizens of Travis County in criminal matters big and small. Let me put my experience and skill to work for you.
