Until 2002, E. Dale Adkins, III was one of Maryland's leading defense lawyers, representing both doctors and hospitals in medical malpractice cases, particularly cases involving brain injured children. During his decades spent for the defense, he acquired an intimate knowledge of medicine and how serious injury cases are evaluated and defended by insurance companies. Now, he applies that knowledge on behalf of injured plaintiffs seeking damages. Knowing how the other side thinks gives Mr. Adkins and his clients a distinct advantage. He believes that imagination- the ability to find a different and better way to communicate ideas to a jury- is the key to success. Since joining SCBMA, he has obtained several multi-million dollar jury verdicts, including a $17.4 million dollar jury verdict in the District of Columbia.. Mr. Adkins comes from a family of lawyers and judges in Salisbury, the heart of Maryland's lower Eastern Shore. He has always had a keen interest in teaching, a talent he believes is critical to a jury lawyer. Additionally, Mr. Adkins lectures each year at a graduate-level course for physicians at Johns Hopkins. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America and has been recognized as one of Baltimore's Best Lawyers in Baltimore Magazine. In 1996, he was invited to become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a society comprised of the top 1% of trial lawyers in the United States and Canada.

I practice property and casualty insurance law. That means I deal with legal issues about insurance for things like cars, homes, businesses, professional malpractice, cyber insurance, that sort of thing. (One of the only major areas of insurance I do not do is health insurance. That's a whole other ballgame.) I represent insurance companies and insureds (people with insurance). My practice is split about sixty percent insurer and forty percent insured. I hope that my experience working in-house for major insurers, as a CPCU, and as a trial lawyer and small business owner help me provide better representation to my clients.. Most of my practice is coverage litigation --fighting over whether an insurance policy covers a loss. I also do bad faith litigation --fighting over whether an insurance company denied a claim in bad faith. And I do malpractice litigation --fighting over whether an insurance agent negligently failed to set up the insurance policy right.. I am also a trial lawyer. I try cases to verdicts. I've been doing it since the 80's.. I am also a mediator. I work for several local circuit courts to help mediate cases so they do not get to trial.. I have also served as an expert witness in litigation about insurance bad faith for both insurers and insureds.
