My clients greatly appreciate the communication, honesty and respect that I show them from the minute they walk in the door. As a former insurance company attorney, I know their techniques for fighting cases, and I am able to help my clients navigate their way to achieve great results.. I received my B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1982, and my J.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986. After working for large firms for several years, I opened my own law firm in downtown Berkeley in January 1994, handling exclusively plaintiffs' personal injury and insurance litigation. I am very passionate about communicating with my clients and zealously representing their interests, as well as being involved in the plaintiff's bar.. I serve on the Board of Governors for Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) and Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association (ACCTLA). I am a member of American Association for Justice (AAJ), the State Bar of California, and the State Bar of Wisconsin. I stay informed in my areas of emphasis by attending three days of seminars at the CAOC's Annual San Francisco Convention. I also attend the ACCTLA's Annual Year In Review of the most recent breaking cases and changes in the law, along with numerous other continuing legal education seminars throughout the year.

I am dedicated to helping clients get the legal representation they require. I served as the director of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in Oklahoma, where I provided lower-income clients with personal and professional tax preparation at no cost. It's this work that spurred me to join the Modest Means Incubator Program with California Lawyer's for the Arts and open my own firm. I want to help artists and innovators–like you–obtain intellectual property protection for their ideas and works.. During law school I worked with a patent prosecution firm and a large university technology transfer office, where I gained experience in patent prosecution and licensing. I have extensive knowledge about patent law and prosecution, and received the highest marks in Patent Law. It's this knowledge that I will put to use to help you get a patent on your idea.
I am a Berkeley native. I moved to New York after high school and spent most of the next 15 years there, first in college, then the workforce, and finally in law school.. In the middle of that period, I returned to Berkeley to get a master's degree in city planning from Cal and work as a city planner in Sonoma.. After moving back to New York and working in city planning for five years there, I decided to try something else. Law school had never been on my radar, but I discovered that it was a perfect fit for me. I didn't want to leave New York, however, and I was fortunate enough to be admitted to the Benjamin N. Cardozo School Law, located at 5th Avenue and 12th Street in Manhattan. I enrolled in 2002 and graduated in 2005.. After finishing law school, I moved back to Berkeley. I have been working as a lawyer since 2006. I have had my own practice since 2007.. I practice family law exclusively.. I became a family law attorney because it gives me the chance to help folks on a very personal level, which is important to me. People who come to see me are inevitably going through a difficult time, and I thrive on getting them through it as quickly and effectively as possible.
