He was admitted to the Alabama and Georgia Bars (1988), and to the Florida Bar (1989). He graduated from Florida State University (B.A., English-Business Administration, 1984), after being admitted on a National Merit Scholarship, and from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University (J.D. 1988)..
