I am a personal injury attorney who enjoys representing people that have been injured in almost any type of incident.  Before I represented injured persons, I previously represented the people/companies doing the injuring.  In other words, I was hired by insurance companies to defend their insureds in personal injury cases.  Thus, I have the distinct advantage and somewhat unique perspective of having previously been a defense lawyer.  I am able to use that experience and perspective to help the people I reprsent now.. Although I handle more car/truck/motorcycle wrecks than anything else, I particularly like to represent injured cyclists given that I am an avid cyclist myself.  In addition, I have handled several other type of cases including dog-bite cases, mis-filled prescription cases, slip/trip and fall cases, as well as some product and employment liability cases.. In addition to cycling, I enjoy going on hiking trips with my wife.   Another activity that I enjoy is playing table tennis and I am activily involved in a table tennis league.  Swimming, working - out and reading kind of round out my hobbies.. My 3 children are now all in college so planning trips to see them is fun.  I've thought about getting a dog to have around the house, but not yet ready to make that committment.

Firm: Heninger Garrison Davis, LLC

Honza Prchal is an associate of the firm whose areas of emphasis include mass torts, especially pharmaceutical and medical device work, and also general litigation. He has spent at least half his time on mass torts even before he started working with W. Lewis Garrison, Jr. in 1997, and he continues to enjoy helping clients navigate and understand an esoteric and confusing area of law where it is far too easy and far too common for clients to feel like numbers, rather than individuals with claims. Since Honza had to go through immigration himself and help his wife through US Immigration, he is highly motivated to try and help clients get on with their lives with less of the unique dread a large impersonal bureaucracy like an MDL proceeding with Plaintiffs’ Management Committees can engender. Honza is a member of the American Bar Association, Phi Delta Phi, the Birmingham Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, a life member of the Antient and Honourable Edmund Burke Society at the University of Chicago. He is a member of the Federalist Society, where he was twice an officer at the University of Virginia School of Law and was an officer in the Birmingham Lawyers' chapter for several years. He was a founding member and officer of the International Civitan Club of Metro Birmingham Chapter of Civitan International and also a member of the ACTION Civitan chapter. He was captain of the Moot Court Team and was Dicta Editor at the Virginia Law Weekly. He served as English language press secretary for Vaclav Klaus, Finance Ministry, Czech and Slovak Federative Republic, 1991. He has been active in choral music since grammar school , has represented the firm at Croonin' for Critters and in trivia competition and used to be a competitive fencer in all three weapons, but especially epee.  Honza volunteers at All Saints Episcopal Church, his daughter’s school and at a number of Bar Association and alumni events, but his legal pro bono work is mostly with the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program “Attorney for the Day” program where he can be found just about every month trying to help pro se claimants through the vagaries of the court system in Downtown Birmingham. Past volunteer work that he found interesting was interviewing veterans for the library of Congress. Since some of his own family was liberated by American troops in World War II and he saw the effects of their post-war departure on his family’s own country and on that of his friends,’  he found this particularly rewarding. He also did some pro bono work for the Birmingham Fencing Club.

Erik’s training as a lawyer began early in life at the family dinner table. During those meals, his father, Stephen D. Heninger, who is the senior partner at Heninger Garrison Davis, would chronicle the stories of his clients and the law’s potential to help those who have been harmed. These lessons provided a solid foundation and direction for Erik in his passion for the practice of law. Because of these early moments, once Erik passed the bar exam, representing plaintiffs in courtrooms across the country truly became a family business. After growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, Erik attended Birmingham-Southern College where he received a Bachelor of Arts in English. Shortly thereafter, his path into law became evident as he graduated from Cumberland School of Law and received his Juris Doctor degree in 2001. Erik is a member of the State Bars of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi and maintains a consistent presence in each state. The majority of his practice is devoted to representing individuals and businesses in civil litigation. While civil litigation is the vehicle through which he works, Erik’s passion is helping people who suffer from catastrophic injuries such as severe brain and spine damage.. In addition to assisting clients, Erik believes that serving in state and national bar associations is essential to being a complete lawyer. Given that belief, Erik makes a point of being active in city, state and national legal organizations. He is very active in the American Association of Justice (AAJ) where he teaches trial advocacy and litigation techniques to other lawyers across the country. These trial colleges allow Erik to offer his knowledge and experience and also expose him to innovative ideas being used by other lawyers. Erik also focuses on the State of Alabama through his involvement with the Alabama Association of Justice (ALAJ), serving as an Officer since 2017.. Currently, Erik represents the 10th Judicial Circuit (Birmingham) as an elected member of the Board of Bar Commissioners for the Alabama State Bar. As part of his Commissioner responsibilities, Erik sits on the Alabama State Bar Character & Fitness Committee and the Disciplinary Rules & Enforcement Committee. Finally, he has been a member of the Birmingham Bar Executive Committee since 2016. Erik is “AV Preeminent” Rated by Martindale-Hubbell – the highest possible distinction conferred by both professional peers and judges. In 2013, he was inducted as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation only organization committed to preserving the right to trial by jury.
