I'm a dispute resolution professional with over 20 years of experience, first as an attorney then as a mediator, facilitator, trainer, consultant and coach. My goal has always been to help people recognize their options and give them the tools they need to succeed which is why I created my company, fixerrr ().. Over the last fifteen years, I have taught mediation, negotiation, conciliation, arbitration, and facilitation skills workshops for clients such as the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Administrative Office of the Trial Court, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) and the Massachusetts Office of Dispute Resolution (now known as the Massachusetts Office of Public Collaboration). I have designed and managed conflict resolution programs for the Massachusetts Superior Court, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, federal agencies, and private corporations including the Gillette/Procter and Gamble Severance Denial Appeal Program.. My mediation practice is informed by my experiences working in the court system and the public sector. Since 2011, I've been a member of the Administrative Office of the Trial Court's Standing Committee on Dispute Resolution. During my five years at the Massachusetts Office of Dispute Resolution, I facilitated intra-agency disputes, created the first federally-funded Agricultural Mediation Program in New England and partnered with the Consensus Building Institute on a multi-state initiative to quantify the benefits of alternative dispute resolution. At the American Arbitration Association, I also managed Large Complex Commercial Disputes for cases exceeding $1 million in claims.. An Adjunct Professor at Emerson College since 2012, I teach courses in Conflict and Negotiation, Persuasion and Mediation. I'm also part of the faculty at Society of GrownUps (a MassMutual Learning Initiative) where I teach salary negotiation, and of MCLE's faculty for mediation and ADR training programs. I served as Co-Chair of MCLE's Annual ADR and the Law Conference for its first three years (2009-2011) and again in 2014.. I've authored and contributed to several articles on conflict management, employment and mediation issues in publications ranging from the ABA, the Family Mediation Quarterly, and the BBC Capital. In 2011, 2012 and 2015, I was recognized as a New England Super Lawyer, a list published annually by Boston Magazine and Thompson-Reuters of lawyers viewed by their peers as being in the top 5% of the profession, and named in The Top Women Attorneys in Massachusetts, a special section of the April 2013 and 2016 issues of Boston Magazine. I am also a contributing author to the book, Mediation: A Practice Guide for Mediators, Lawyers, and Other Professionals (MCLE, Nov. 2013).
I have thirty years' experience in successfully resolving business disputes through litigation, mediation, and arbitration. Each client has personal access to me throughout the representation, but we also have a "deep bench" of support in all relevant areas of legal expertise. My goals are to continue to improve in all aspects of the complicated problem-solving that we do, and to make each client a satisfied continuing member of a mutually beneficial network.. Business and partnership restructuring and separation; fiduciary and directors' and officers' disputes; patent, trademark and copyright litigation; bankruptcy litigation including claims resolution, contested matters and adversary proceedings; international arbitration.
I have practiced environmental law for over 30 years. While my practice is mainly focused in Massachusetts, because I have clients with operations located out of state, involving federal law, such as superfund and RCRA, I advise clients on these matters throughout the United States. My work has ranged from negotiating a biomass feedstock agreement for a project in Hawaii, to negotiating superfund settlements for sites located in Louisiana and clean up contracts for sites located in New Jersey and throughout the US. I like to think that my clients are solving environmental problems. Because they are at the interface between environmental problems, the public and business, they face a wide array of issues. My job is to help to navigate that maze in a cost effective, thoughtful and responsible manner. The end result is to produce results for today's businesses and tomorrow's environment. The breadth and depth of my experience is demonstrated by the environmental due diligence I performed on the acquisition by my client of over 50 hazardous waste facilities located in thirty states, resulting in my client becoming the largest hazardous waste company in North America. Most recently my practice has focused on development of renewable energy facilities, ranging for solar projects on landfills to utility scale biomass facilities. I have been very involved with the proposed regulatory changes for the development of anaroebic digestion facilities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I hope to continue to participate in the development of domestic renewable, cleaner energy resources to reduce dependence on foreign oil. In addition, I continue to represent a wide array of clients on superfund, c. 21E, RCRA, solid waste, recycling, environmental review, zoning, clean up contracting and related issues.

Ashleigh Louis, PhD and I founded Quantum ADR to emphasize compassionate conflict resolution through coaching and mindful mediation. Our aim is to effectively navigate intertwined relationships rather than attempting to sever them completely or establish the dominance of one party over the other.. We've witnessed firsthand the detrimental impact of high-conflict relationships on children and adults, alike. This ignited our passion to resolve conflict through an interdisciplinary approach that is informed from both a legal and mental health perspective to help people discover the unique solutions that maximize healthy resolution for all parties.. Rather than winners and losers, we encourage focusing on the wellbeing of individuals and their relationships, in whatever forms those take. We embrace the importance of understanding that interconnectedness endures long after conflicts are settled, and believe the best approaches are those that facilitate growth, insight, and compromise.. As Past Chapter President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, I have deep insights into the legal system that I feel passionately about sharing.. Throughout my volunteer experiences as Director of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), an interdisciplinary association dedicated to the resolution of family conflict, and Overcoming Barriers, a non-profit organization created to promote healthy co-parenting for children in high conflict families, I realized that the best way to resolve conflict is through leveraging the tools that legal and mental health professionals bring to the table.. Admitted to the MA, FL and NY bars, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Tax Court, I am a graduate of Columbia University, (B.A., 1994), Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, (J.D., 1997), Defense Language Institute (Russian), and, during law school, I served as a law clerk at the Israeli Supreme Court where I researched and wrote about family law. I am also a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
After litigating cases for 18 years, I determined to pursue a better way of resolving disputes by learning the art of mediation. Bringing those skills to divorce mediation helps empower the indiduals involved by allowing their voice to be heard and by allowing them to to find a path forward shaped and agreed to by those who live with the issues day-to-day. Although the process can take time it usually results in a better outcome and sets the stage for a better future than if the outcome is set by a Court.
