Mr. Cohen is also a proven litigator and trial lawyer. In 2012 he won a 4.2 million dollar verdict in a breach of contract case that included nearly two million dollars in punitive damages. His philosophy and experience enable him to facilitate transactions today that are least likely to become lawsuits tomorrow. He is a highly respected business lawyer.. Mr. Cohen grew up in Denver. He earned his BA in economics at Whitman College 1980, then returned to Colorado and received his law degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1983. He has tremendous experience in all aspects of local government.. Mr. Cohen lived in Nederland, Colorado for more than twenty years, and is well-versed in issues that often arise with mountain real estate, including easements, boundary disputes, and adverse possession.  He has given presentations on easement law to the Colorado Bar Association and at the Rocky Mountain Surveyors Summit.. Because of his diverse background, Mr. Cohen has experience in many areas of the law, but his practices emphasizes commercial law, real estate law, contract law, and related litigation.. An accomplished writer, Mr. Cohen has authored six articles in the prestigious American Jurisprudence Proof of Facts series, including the primary article on piercing the corporate veil. He wrote several articles published in The Colorado Lawyer and an article on equipment leasing for Rocky Mountain Construction. One of his interests is the use of "Plain English" rather than legal jargon in legal writing. He founded The Plain English Institute, a nonprofit that promotes plain English.. Mr. Cohen served six years on the Board of Editors of The Colorado Lawyer (Chairperson 2012-2013), and now serves as editor of that magazine's contract law column. I understand that you will have many excellent choices as you search for an attorney to help you.  I encourage and invite you to consult with several attorneys before you make this important decision. Perhaps learning a little about me as a person will give you some insight into the type of advocate I will be on your behalf.  First, I am fiercely loyal and committed:  I have been happily married to my husband, Spencer (a teacher), since 1991.  We are enjoying raising our four children, Spencer Jr. and triplets Hays, Charlotte and Coleman.  Second, I am energetic:  we moved our family to Colorado in 2010 to enjoy the outdoor opportunities that our whole family so enjoys – biking, skiing, and hiking.    I learned to swim in 2011 so that I could start participating in triathalons; as both a lawyer and an individual, I am extremely competitive!  Since I love a good challenge, swimming has become my favorite sport.  I am an active volunteer with the University Hill Elementary PTA and Boulder Junior Cycling because I love children, education, and sports.

I started my career as a lawyer working for the insurance companies.  I left that job to represent injured folks because I wanted to represent people and not an industry.  After spending many years and many hundreds of cases working with a partner, I am now on my own.  Because I am now able to make the decisions, I choose to keep my client load low so that I can give every case every bit of attention and energy that it deserves.  It took me eleven years to finally get to where I am now, representing real people with real needs.  I could not be prouder and would be honored to talk to you about your case.

I have been in private practice, based in Boulder, since 2012. During that time, my practice has focused on criminal defense. I discovered criminal defense as a student at the University of Colorado School of Law, where I represented people charged with crimes through the criminal defense clinic and as an intern at the Boulder public defender's office. After graduating from law school, I worked at the Adams County public defender's office representing people charged with crimes ranging from DUI to First Degree Murder. I have done over fifty jury trials and many more contested hearings. I take pride in my experience and reputation as an aggressive trial lawyer, but I take equal pride in my experience and reputation as a creative and sensitive negotiator.. It is my privilege to act as an advocate for people who are facing the difficult journey of being charged with a crime. My greatest satisfaction comes from helping my clients through that journey in an intelligent and empowering way.

I grew up in a middle class, hard-working family in Anchorage, Alaska, where I learned to camp, fish, ski, and enjoy the outdoors.  I was raised to tell the truth, work hard and do your best - always.  These character traits guide me to this day.  I graduated in the top 10% of my class at East Anchorage High School in 1983, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was a multi year letterman in baseball, track, football, and speech and debate.. Seeking a warmer climate and a top notch education, I traveled south to Southern California to attend the Univerity of California, San Diego.  In 1988, I graduated from UCSD with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Economics.  I earned Departmental Honors in Political Science.  I was a member and officer of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, played intercollegiate baseball and track, and participated in a variety of intramural sports.  As a debate team champion in high school, I was disappointed when I learned there was no speech and debate club at UCSD.  So, along with others, I started one.  I was the sole student representative for the design and buildout of the UCSD Student Center, which remains a central building and student gathering place on the campus today.. After undergraduate, I attended the University of San Diego Law School and graduated in 1991 with a Juris Doctorate.  I earned an American Jurisprudence Award in Trial Advocacy.  I worked my way through law school as a law clerk with litigation firms in San Diego specializing in personal injury.  After passing the California Bar exam in 1991, I joined a small, boutique business and litigation firm in La Jolla, California, where the senior partner selected me as the lead litigator after 6 months.. I moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1992 and started my own law firm, which is now the Tenge Law Firm, LLC.  We have been in business for 18 years.  I have always focused on personal injury, business and civil litigation and insurance.  However, since 2006, we have limited our practice to litigation, with an emphasis on personal injury and insurance matters.  We have earned a reputation as one of the premier personal injury and insurance law firms in Boulder County.  Countless medical providers refer their patients to our Firm because they know they will be provided expert representation in a personal, individualized manner.  Frankly, when a law firm does a great job for an injury client, it ensures that the medical providers get paid.. The Tenge Law Firm is a boutique injury litigation firm specializing in personal injury and insurance cases.  It is all we do.  Period.  We provide aggressive, diligent and extremely thorough representation for injury victims and their families.  Your case will be handled by me personally.  TLF paralegals are highly qualified, experienced, thorough, and personable (otherwise, they would not be with the Tenge Law Firm).. We maintain a reasonable number of selective cases so we can provide the utmost attention to the details of every case, and take care of our clients personally.  We don't advertise on television and we aren't running a personal injury "mill".  Each case matters. We don't have the pressure to accept "low ball" setttlement offers in order to feed our ad budget.  Most of our clients seek our help as a result of a personal referral.. The Tenge Law Firm uses innovation, knowlege and advanced technology to take on the insurance companies and obtain the just and fair compensation our clients deserve.  We communicate effectively and regularly with our clients, and return emails and phone calls promptly.  We enjoy helping injured folks.. When I'm not fighting the insurance companies and their "Evil Empire", I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife and 2 beautiful daughters, fly fishing, working out, cycling and playing guitar.

I clearly remember the long and heartbreaking journey of entering and remaining in this country and I have nothing but compassion for those going through that journey.. I grew up on the border, in El Paso, Texas. There, I witnessed firsthand the injustices resulting from a complicated and unfair immigration system. This inspired me to pursue a career in law. After acquiring a finance degree from the University of Texas in El Paso, I pursued my dream of going to law school and becoming an immigration attorney.. Since graduating from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio, I have dedicated my career to doing humanitarian work and to helping those who usually don’t have a voice. It is an honor to be able to help not only my Mexican people but people from all over the world. Helping people accomplish their dreams and remain together with their families is meaningful and fulfilling for me. I do this work because I have been there. I do this work because I care.
