I come from a family of lawyers and have been in the courtroom as long as I can remember. After attending school at the University of Utah and clerking for Utah Supreme Court Justice Jill Parrish, I moved to southwest Montana where I opened offices in Bozeman and Big Sky. In addition to managing a growing trial practice, I travel nationwide to lecture and teach trial skills to other lawyers in the areas of family law, criminal defense, and DUI. I have authored articles on trial tactics in family, civil, and criminal cases and most recently, co-authored the book, Cross-Examination for Depositions, with my father, Roger Dodd.
I am a sixty-year-old trial lawyer, with over thirty years’ experience in the courtroom. I know that if you are looking for a criminal defense lawyer for yourself or a loved one, you are seeking results. Furthermore, if you do not have confidence in your lawyer, you will never have confidence in the results he obtains for you. I have taken the liberty, therefore, to include within this website some of the examples of results which I have been able to obtain in dozens, if not hundreds of cases. In addition to obtaining noteworthy outcomes at trial, I have negotiated hundreds of plea agreements, many of which have been remarkable in their own right. I also have a notable record of dismissals, as a result of search or confession challenges under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments. The cases cited on this site constitute what comes most readily to mind as I reflect on my career.. In addition to pursuing justice for my clients, I have worked hard to promote a justice model within our society which reflects what we are entitled to expect as a by-product of 6,000 years of civilization. I have served my profession and my community by fostering professionalism. I am a Founding Member of the Montana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a former President of that organization. I am a full fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. I served as Chairman of the Criminal Section of the Montana State Bar for ten years. I am a Life Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a Provisional Member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. I also co-founded the first drug treatment court in the state of Montana and I am a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers.. I have on occasion, served as an expert witness in federal court on criminal defense matters. Over the course of the last several years, I have published in the area of criminal law, and I have spoken at a number of seminars pertaining to criminal law matters.
Brittany was admitted to the Montana Bar in 2013 and quickly began her legal career as a criminal prosecutor for Gallatin County—one of the busiest and most dynamic jurisdictions in the state. During her time at the Gallatin County Attorney’s Office, she prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases and conducted dozens of jury and bench trials, gaining invaluable courtroom experience and a deep understanding of Montana’s legal system and the people within it.. She then transitioned into private practice, where she focused on DUI and criminal defense, as well as plaintiff-side litigation. Her time as a prosecutor gave her a unique perspective and strategic edge when advocating for her clients in and out of the courtroom.. Next, an opportunity to take on a senior leadership role at a beloved Bozeman nonprofit opened the door to a new chapter. Brittany served for nearly a decade as the Director of Operations, advising on legal, HR, and business matters and helping guide the organization through periods of growth and change. That experience exponentially broadened her skillset and deepened her connection to the community she serves.. Now, as the founder of Saddle Peak Law, PLLC, Brittany brings together her legal expertise and real-world business and nonprofit leadership experience. Her practice focuses on business law, contracts, employment law, wage and hour disputes, nonprofit law, criminal and DUI defense, and equine law. Whether you're an individual navigating a criminal or contractual legal issue, a small business in need of guidance, or a nonprofit striving for compliance and sustainability, Brittany offers practical, informed, experienced, strategic, and compassionate counsel.. Brittany is deeply rooted in the Gallatin Valley and the people, organizations, and traditions that have made it so special. When she’s not working with clients, you’ll likely find her on horseback, volunteering for local nonprofit organizations, or cheering on the Montana State University Bobcats.
