Raised in Billings, Montana, Troy is a fourth-generation Montanan. He attended Billings West High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Montana College. Upon graduating, he moved to Seattle, where he worked for a Fortune 200 company, applying his business skills and acumen. After many years in the Pacific Northwest, Troy decided to expand upon his education and pursue a career in the law, with the intent of returning to Montana.. In 1993, Troy enrolled at Gonzaga University School of Law, where he completed his Juris Doctorate. Following law school, he took up residence in Bozeman, Montana, where he was in private practice until he joined BKBH as a shareholder in 2008.

I am a sixty-year-old trial lawyer, with over thirty years’ experience in the courtroom. In addition to obtaining noteworthy outcomes at trial, I have negotiated hundreds of plea agreements, many of which have been remarkable in their own right. I also have a notable record of dismissals, as a result of search or confession challenges under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments. The cases cited on this site constitute what comes most readily to mind as I reflect on my career.. In addition to pursuing justice for my clients, I have worked hard to promote a justice model within our society which reflects what we are entitled to expect as a by-product of 6,000 years of civilization. I have served my profession and my community by fostering professionalism. I am a Founding Member of the Montana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a former President of that organization. I am a full fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. I served as Chairman of the Criminal Section of the Montana State Bar for ten years. I am a Life Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a Provisional Member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. I also co-founded the first drug treatment court in the state of Montana and I am a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers.. I have on occasion, served as an expert witness in federal court on criminal defense matters. Over the course of the last several years, I have published in the area of criminal law, and I have spoken at a number of seminars pertaining to criminal law matters.

Brandon received a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Management from Texas Tech University. After Texas Tech, he worked as a Conservation Officer (Game Warden) for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.  He graduated from Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon in 2009.  He became a member of the Montana Bar in 2010.  Brandon has practiced criminal law exclusively since becoming an attorney.     Brandon started his Montana legal career as a public defender. He then went on to work for the County Attorney's Office in both Hill County and Gallatin County. His experience as a law enforcement officer, public defender, and prosecutor allows him to be an effective criminal defense attorney because he has seen the criminal justice system from all angles. This unique blend of experience allows him to be very comfortable with the ins and outs of both sides of the legal process relevant to your defense needs.  Whether it be trial strategy or plea negotiations, Brandon understands how both sides operate and he will use that understanding to work towards achieving your specific goals..
