Joey Hamby is a criminal defense attorney in practice in Arizona since 1994.  Over the years he has personally been counsel of record on hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases in state and federal courts. Joey represents clients in all stages of their cases, from pre-charge investigation through jury trial.. Joey began working on death penalty cases over twelve years ago.  In that time period he represented approximately 16 defendants charged with first degree murder and facing the possibility of capital punishment.  He has also been a Rule 32 expert on a capital case.  Joey has tried three capital cases to conclusion.  Joey is a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law through the State Bar of Arizona.  Joey is now an attorney with the Law Offices of David Michael Cantor where his practice focuses on major felonies in Arizona and in Federal District Courts around the nation.  Joey received his Bachelors degree through the Justice Studies Program at Arizona State University and he received his J.D. from the University of Dayton in Ohio.  Between college and law school Joey worked as a probation officer in Maricopa County.. I was born in Detroit, and raised in southeastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio, before moving to the desert southwest after graduation from college. I traded winter gray skies, cold and snow for sunshine warmth and annual withering summer heat. I have lived in Arizona since 1976, and graduated law school in 1983.. I am single, with three handsome & intelligent adult sons, and an eight-year old grandson, who keeps me busy trying to keep up with him. I  enjoy an active lifestyle, including: trave to new and interesting places; white-water rafting, camping and stream fishing for trout; playing and watching sports; reading and  talking with people, as I always want to better know and understand our world around us.

I have been practicing law since 1986.  I started in juvenile law, representing abused and neglected children. I added probate law around the same time, which involved administering decedents' estates, working with adults who were the subjects of guardianship and/or conservatorship proceedings and protecting the interests of minors in connection with conservatorship cases. Whether representing petitioners concerned about the well-being of their loved ones or representing children or disabled adults, working to help bring about positive change and good results for those who are disabled, abused, neglected or unable to protect themselves is fulfilling.. Also, helping people who have lost family and/or loved ones sort through the probate process is something I enjoy doing.  At the end of the day, it's really important to know that I've helped make someone's life a little better, a little less stressful, and a little more successful!. Traveling the world and making music is something I enjoy in my spare time.  I am a singer-songwriter who loves gospel, bossa nova and world music in various languages. My original music won second place in the 2010 Arizona State Bar Creative Arts Competition for lawyers, which was the first and only time I entered the competition.  Looking forward to making more music in 2014!
