Paul R. Thurmond was born in Greenwood, S.C., the youngest son of Senator Strom Thurmond and Nancy Moore Thurmond. A native of Aiken, South Carolina, Paul Thurmond graduated from Aiken High School and earned an athletic scholarship to Vanderbilt University. While at Vanderbilt, Thurmond was a four year letterman on the tennis team, achieving national ranking and serving as team captain his senior year. Jay’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, professional liability defense, products liability, premises liability, insurance defense, construction and personal injury litigation. Born in Ohio and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jay received his undergraduate degree in from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A.) where he majored in Journalism and was a member of the university’s football and rugby teams. Jay earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law cum laude, where he was President of the Honor Council, Vice-President of the Moot Court Board, member of the Psychology, Public Policy and Law Journal, Chair of Dean’s Cup, as well as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Epsilon Lambda honor societies. Additionally, he was the recipient of the Thomas Ewald Memorial Scholarship Award, the highest award for excellence in Litigation Skills.. When not in the office or a court room, Jay stays busy cheering on his children’s sports teams, as well as the Tar Heels and the Blues of Chelsea Football Club. He enjoys boating and going to the beach with his family, and playing tennis, soccer, and golf.
