Firm: Young & Young, Attorneys at Law

Kelley Young grew up in the Lowcountry an after graduating magna cum laude from law school, she immediately moved back to the area because of her passion to help those in her community. During law school, Kelley clerked for the United States Attorney's Office as well as for two judges in the criminal arena. She also successfully argued cases as a Certified Legal Intern for the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division. Kelley practiced as an Assistant Solicitor in Charleston for several years, where she was selected to focus primarily on litigating violent crimes and larger narcotics cases towards the end of her prosecution career.. Kelley left the prosecutor's office when she was appointed by the Governor of South Carolina to become a Magistrate Judge for Charleston County. As a Magistrate Judge, Kelley gained invaluable experience by holding bond hearings, preliminary hearings, traffic court as well as eviction hearings for all of Charleston County. Because of her passion to fight for others in the Lowcountry where she grew up, Kelley resigned as a Magistrate Judge to join Adam Young in private practice.. Kelley’s diverse trial experience as a prosecutor and her time as a Magistrate Judge has led her to fully understand the inner workings of all stages in the criminal justice system-including how to assess the weaknesses of each criminal case during preliminary hearings or pre-indictment stages, negotiate bonds and plea agreements between attorneys and judges, and zealously protect and defend the rights of her clients. When she is not working for her personal injury or criminal defense clients, Kelley prosecutes cases for the City of Folly Beach. Kelley's litigation background and unique experience as a local Judge make her a strong advocate for all of her clients.

I am proud to be a criminal defense lawyer. I have over three decades of experience in criminal justice as a former FBI agent, former Assistant State Prosecutor (Solicitor), former Charleston City Prosecutor and municipal judge. This diverse exposure to many facets of the legal system has provided me with invaluable experience, which is  otherwise difficult to acquire. I have been Board Certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, qualifying me as a specialist in Criminal Trial Advocacy. I am also lead chair death penalty certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court.. I have tried cases in city, county, state and federal courts in South Carolina since 1980. This inclusive experience has afforded me the opportunity to learn that the best outcomes are achieved by understanding a client's needs and dedicating myself to their interests. A person charged with a criminal offense faces a path of accusation pursued by a government entity with great resources. This warrants the advocacy of a lawyer with significant experience in criminal defense.. I will only decide to undertake representation of a client after meeting with them to discuss their case in detail.  The first meeting is an integral component of my representation process. It allows me to become acquainted with a client and establish a professional, trusting relationship with them. This meeting also provides me with the chance to educate a prospective client on their legal matters and inform them of the next steps in their legal proceedings. I enjoy providing comprehensive education to my clients about their case because it allows us to better communicate with each other.. - Tim Kulp

I am a native of Charleston.  I received my primary education at  Charleston Day School and attended Porter Gaud High School  After graduation from Washington and Lee University, I entered the Masters in Public Administration Program at the College of Charleston.  It was a two year program and I decided to leave after a year to attend law school.. I began working as a law clek in 1983 with a firm specializing in workers compensation and insurance defense work.  The firm offerd me a job in Birmingham Alabama upon graduation and when it merged with a firm in Mobile, I  was tansfered to Mobile and worked with an exceptional attorney in the field of medical malpractice defense.  I wanted to return to my home town and did so in 1987, leaving behind a great job.  I worked with the same firm in Charleston for over 21 years, including 13 years as managing attorney.  I co-founded Corrigan & Chandler  with Nelson Chandler in Febuary of 2010.  I am primarily a litigator having taken some 200 cases to a jury verdict and more to a ruling by a Judge or Comissoner.  I am a certified mediator and have conducted a number of them.. When my work allows the time, I have a passion for Colonial American History and the European back stories which lead to the colonization of this Country by European powers.  I also study the Tudor and Stuart monarchs in England and the exiled senior branch of the British Royal family.. I collect regional art and volunteer for a dog rescue organization. I am lucky to live on the coast and get out on a boat or to the beach with my dogs as often as possible.  I pretend to fish and prefer war stories about fishing more than the law.  I am passionately concerned about First Amendment Rights, especially free speach but handle cases in all SC courts on a wide variety of topics. Construction Law is a very active area of practice in this area along with product liability cases.  I enjoy the variety of cases.  I have excellent claims represetatives handling my insurance defense files.  Boredom is never an issue.. It is a smaller part of my practice but the representation of small businesses in these uncertain economic times is very satisfying.  Historic Preservation Law, an off shoot of zoning and planning law, is also a fascinating area of the law.  If forced to define a specilaty, it is working to avoid litigation when best for my client, preparing cases for trial and being ready to try any case.. If you have never visited Charleton, you should for the natural and man made beauty.  If you have any interest in history, forget the high school text book version and come see the real thing.  Travel advice is free.

I am a litigation attorney with over 20 yeasrs proven courtroom experience.   Although not every case goes to court, you need to make sure you are picking an attorney who will go to court if that what is needed.   If you prepare to win your case, then you are in the best possible position.   If you don't prepare to win, then you are almost certainly preparing to lose.. I believe in the value of work.  So, you will typically find me at the office or in court.  It helps that I like what I do.. I do teach Sunday school to 1st graders at my church.  Not only are kids funny (often unintentionally), I find that teaching little kids about faith, values and common sense makes me a better lawyer and person.  Communicating about right and wrong is what lawyers do for a living.   And at the end of the day, I think the world would be a better place if we could remember what we were taught in 1st grade---honesty, respect, responsiblity, commitment, and hard work.

I am a former police officer and prosecutor.  I fight for my clients and ensure their rights are protected.  When you have charges pending, or have been in an accident, you need an agressive lawyer who knows what to do and isn't afraid to take a case to trial.  I have tried more than forty (40) cases as a prosecutor, and have tried cases as a defense attorney as well.  My firm's mission is to give my clients premium legal services and treat every client like they are my most important client...because they are.

Guy J. Vitetta has been a practicing trial lawyer since 1991 and has practiced exclusively family and divorce law in Charleston since 2002.   He has earned a reputation for excellence in Family law representation and continues to hold an AV® Peer Rating*, the highest given by Martindale–Hubbell, which was awarded in 2005. This award is given to an attorney by his/her colleagues to honor their high regard for his or her professional and ethical skills.. Guy has represented hundreds of clients in all types of Family Law matters, including:. Eleven years as a public defender made Guy an effective and decisive litigator.  His trial and litigation skills are critical to the evaluation of and strategic planning in any legal case and when a Family Law case goes to trial, Guy employs all of those skills.. But a majority of cases involving families are settled before going to trial.  To conduct the process most appropriate to a client’s particular situation, Guy draws on extensive experience with all available tools, including:. Upon seeing the reality of domestic relations law, Guy saw room for improvement in how family disputes were handled in South Carolina. He sought alternatives and in 2003 became the first attorney in South Carolina trained in Collaborative Law. He is a founding member and past president of the South Carolina Collaborative Law Institute.  He is also a Certified Family Court Mediator in South Carolina and co-founded the Mediation and Meeting Center of Charleston.  Guy is seen as a leader in Family Law and has mentored many new lawyers.  Guy currently serves on the Practice and Procedures Committee of the South Carolina Bar.. Another example of Guy’s leadership is his dedicated effort to improve the options for managing the financial aspects of Family Law matters.  In early 2016, Guy and colleague Sean Keefer, released an innovative software program, called , for Judges and attorneys in South Carolina to assist in the organization and secure management of client financial data.  Settlyd improves greatly the collection, calculation, and secure storage of the complex financial data, which are central to all family legal matters.. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, Guy graduated from Ohio’s Kenyon College with a B.A. in history and religion. As a community activist addressing consumer and environmental issues, Guy decided his most influential avenue for making a difference in the community was in the practice of law.  He graduated from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio in 1991.  He worked on appeals for Death Row inmates while clerking in the Death Penalty Section of the Ohio Public Defender Commission during Law School. He then served as a Public Defender in Columbus, Ohio for two years and then in Charleston County, South Carolina for nine years before opening his private practice in Charleston, South Carolina.
