I was born and raised in Chattanooga and went to Baylor for high school. I went on to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where I received an undergraduate degree in Business Management with a major in Finance. Straight out of undergrad, I went across the street to the University of Tennessee School of Law. I graduated with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence (a fancy name for “law degree”) in 2004. I moved right back to Chattanooga and have been practicing law here for the past 16 years. For the past 12 years, I have practiced family law (divorce, alimony, child support, custody, etc.) almost exclusively. I also received a designation as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst which allows me the best understanding of the financial concepts that are specific to many divorce cases.. I believe that most clients are looking for resolutions to their problems while, at the same time, minimizing the stress to themselves and their families and not breaking the bank but yet, getting what they deserve. My strategy to meet these goals for my clients involves education of the client about how their goals meet with what the law will allow, educating myself about your assets, debts and family background to understand how best to use the different facts and information and then finally, smart and strategic negotiating where you are involved in the negotiation process.. My staff and I will help you understand how the facts of your case blend with the laws that apply to your case. My clients are then able to participate more, understand what the timeline and expectations are in their case and ultimately, help themselves and their case.

For almost five years prior to joining Houston & Alexander, I worked at the Public Defender’s Office, where I handled hundreds of the most difficult cases, from the first court date all the way through appeal. During this time I had major successes in trials and motion hearings. I also successfully argued at the Court of Criminal Appeals, getting two separate murder convictions reversed.

For over 30 years, people faced with a DUI or criminal charges have relied upon me to make sure that one mistake did not ruin their family, career and/or livelihood.. The lawyers at my firm have over six decades of experience handling criminal matters from virtually every perspective.  I am not ony a lawyer, but I have been judge for the City of Red Bank handling criminal matters for over 15 years.  My partner, Bret Alexander, is a former DUI prosecutor as well as an assistant U.S. Attorney.. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH. Martin L. Pierceis a native of Memphis, Tennessee, and received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Tennessee Technological University in 1978.  He received that institution's Outstanding Young Alumnus Award in 1988.  Martin received his law degree, with high honors, from the University of Memphis in 1981, where he was a published member of the University of Memphis Law Review.  He is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Georgia, as well as before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.. Martin is in his 37th year of law practice in Chattanooga, where he began with Stophel, Caldwell & Heggie, P.C., in 1981.  In 1984, he moved to Chambliss & Bahner, PLLC (where he became a Partner in 1987 and was the Head of the Firm’s Tax & Estates and Employee Benefits Sections).  In 2002, Martin joined the national law firm of Husch & Eppenberger, LLC (where he was Head of the Estate Planning and Employee Benefits practice areas for the Firm’s three offices in the State of Tennessee).  On January 1, 2005, Martin opened his own practice to more personally and cost-effectively serve his clients..
