I have been working for mesothelioma victims for over fifteen years. My interest in this area of law was sparked by my father, Dr. Nicholas Vogelzang, who has also dedicated his career to the treatment of mesothelioma patients. My father and I work closely together to ensure that his patients are treated with the same care when they become my clients.

I have been practicing law for over 50 years.  For over 15 years I taught divorce law and litigation skills in fmaily law related issues at DePaul University College of Law.  I lectured and wrote extensively on the topic of family law and trial and appellate practice.. I have 20 years of experience in Criminal Defense, DUI/Traffic law, civil litigation and Immigration Law. I grew up in the Andersonville Neighborhood of Chicago.  My father and his parents were immigrants from Scandinavia. My father left Norway just prior to the Nazi invasion of Norway.  He told me that he got out on the "last boat"  that made it out.  He studied law and was a Federal Prosecutor.  He was asked by John F. Kennedy to start the first Federal Defender Program here in Chicago. My father then became a Judge. I am the oldest of 6 brothers and sisters and attended St. Ignatius High School.  I spent one year living in Spain and studying at La Universidad de Sevilla, in Seville Spain where I studied Spanish History and literature and became fluent in Spanish.  Sadly, my father was killed in an accident after my freshman year.   I graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston with an English and Spanish major with a focus on literature.  I supported myself as a commercial fisherman in Kodiak, Alaska, working on the boat, the Lopez Isle.  After graduating from Northwestern,  I spent a year teaching high school Latin and Literature at Northridge Prep.  I attended Law School at DePaul University, where I graduated.  I started working for a large law firm in California, doing Insurance Defense Work in the area of Personal injury, including legal and medical malpractice defense.  I later returned to Illinois and began working as an attorney doing insurance defense work in Automobile accidents, dram shop cases, business slip and falls, trip and falls, food poisoning, dog bite cases and other negligence cases. During this time I did approximately 1000 arbitrations and became an arbitrator myself.  I tried many cases in front of judges and tried approximately 30 cases in front of juries in varies counties throughout Illinois.  Around 1996 I shifted my focus to the plaintiff's side and began representing plaintiffs in personal injury actions.  In 1997, my brother John, a former prosecutor joined my office and we became Berg & Berg.  We have had several multi million dollar judgments and millions of dollars in settlements.  I focus on serious personal injury cases, including wrongful death and survival action cases.  I enjoy a good jury trial but also appreciate the benefits of mediation, arbitration and settlement when appropriate. Since, I have worked as a defense attorney and as a Plaintiff's attorney, I believe that I have the ability to be objective and see both sides of the case.

I grew up in Indiana.  My job is all about getting people out of debt and effectively representing my clients.  I received my undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Political Science.  I received myJuris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School.  While at John Marshall, Marc was a staff editor on The Journal of Information and Technology Law.  After law school Marc worked for one of the largest bankruptcy firms in Chicago.  I left seeking a smaller more personalized firm.  I worked at a small respected boutique firm practicing bankruptcy and litigation in bankruptcy.  After that, I worked for a foreclosure firm in Northbrook in their bankruptcy department.  Unsatisfied with creditors work I left and entered private practice.  I am licensed in the State of Illinois, a member of the Federal Trial Bar, and licensed in both the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois Federal Courts.

I greatly enjoy practicing family law. The majority of my cases are pre-decree divorce, post-decree divorce, custody, child support, parentage, and adoption cases.  I also draft and review pre-marital agreements and take family law appeals cases, including DCFS appeals cases.  I am licensed to and have practiced in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1998, with a B.A. in Sociology, (with high honors in the major); Behavioral Science and Law, (with honors in the major); and a Certificate in Integrated Liberal Studies. After graduating from college, I stayed in Madison, where I served as a public school teacher for students with profound disabilities. After teaching for three years, I decided to pursue law school to address many of the social issues I observed as an educator. In 2004 was awarded a law degree from Case Western Reserve School of Law, with a Certificate in Civil Litigation.. I represented clients in state and federal court, the EEOC, the Illinois Court of Claims, the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the Human Rights Commission, and the Chicago Commission on Human Relations. I also worked on a number of large commercial litigation cases. In 2012, Billy and I formed FirmEquity.. I first came to this country when I was 10 years old from India along with my family. At the time, I was far too young to know or appreciate the significance of the experience that I was facing. I knew only that I wanted to see snow.. Quickly as I moved, I realized that there were so many things that were new and different about the United States. I started asking questions about our own traditions and learning more deeply about myself and my heritage through these questions. Like many young immigrants, I was also bullied by some classmates. These experiences made an impact and made me respect and honor the journey that immigrants face when they decide to move from a place and country that is familiar to a place and country that is entirely new.. I decided to go to law school because to me, learning the law was very empowering. Through the legal system, we get the protections and the rights that are provided to each individual in the United States. However, until we learn it, it seems scary and difficult to comprehend. I wanted to understand the legal system to learn the rules of our country.. After graduating from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, I realized that I needed to help empower other immigrants who are also faced with the enormous challenge and possibilities opened by moving to a new and unfamiliar country.. To this day, it is this passion that drives me each and every day. Watching my clients succeed gives me strength. To this success, I am committed.
