I started working in the Domestic Relations Division in 2009 as a law clerk and have always been drawn to the area of family law. I became licensed to practice law in May of 2016 and have an hourly rate of $225/hour. I am bringing my years of experience in the Domestic Relations Division into my practice. It is my longstanding foundation in the area of family law that allows me to compete by offering more experience than other newly licensed attorneys who charge similar rates. I did spend 2015 away from Family Law and worked as a 711 licensed law clerk for the States Attorney's office where I gained trial experience helping to prosecute misdemeanor criminal charges (DUI) in traffic.. I offer free consultations both over the phone and in my office. A consultation can help with general questions or assessing the need for an attorney at all. I love baseball, boxers and bankruptcy.  And not necessarily in that order.  I fell into the practice of bankruptcy law years and years ago, and it has been a perfect match for me.  I love getting rid of debts, and helping folks get back on track with their financial lives.  It gives me great pleasure to wipe out credit card debts and even the IRS debts.  I fell into the perfect job for me.. After years and years of Cub fan futilism, I made the switch to the White Sox.  In time for the 2005 World Series, so that was great.  Now i feel the Cubs calling me back, and am feeling White Sox futilism.....it may be too late for me to switch back.  We will see.  But I love baseball and am a huge fan.  Period.. Boxers too.  I love my Boxer male, but he passed away about two years ago. I want him back.  That's futile too.  I miss taking him to work with me.  I think i am almost ready for another. Hopefully soon.

I concentrate mypractice in the area of family law with extensive experience involving finances, child custody, and domestic violence.  These areas are often complex and can be very emotional for the parties involved.. For 2012 through 2015, I was recognized by his peers and named a “Rising Star” attorney by Illinois Super Lawyersmagazine, a designation limited to less than 2.5% of lawyers under 40 years of age in the state of Illinois.. I am a board member of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division (2008 – current).  Within the Young Lawyers Division, I serve on the Children’s Assistance Fund Grant Subcommittee, which seeks to provide grants to organizations across the state related to children and law.. I am currently an adjunct professor at John Marshall Law School where I co-teach a course titled “Family Law Advocacy,” which teaches students to effectively and compassionately assist survivors of domestic violence in a divorce or paternity action.  Through this course, I have partnered with Between Friends to offer legal assistance to victims of domestic violence.. I am one of the founding members of the Associate Board of the Legal Aid Society (2010 – 2014), which operates as the legal arm of Metropolitan Family Services.  I previously served as the chair of the Pro-bono Committee. With the assistance of another board member, I implemented a Family Law Mentoring Panel to assist pro-bono attorneys when volunteering their time. I also teach the Simple Divorce Training to pro-bono attorneys with the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Family Services.. In 2011, I volunteered at the Cook County Domestic Violence Court Project to assist victims of domestic violence in obtaining orders of protection.

Having spent my entire 42-year career in a law firm with a strong and prominent family law department, as well as a boutique commercial litigation group, I have been able to concentrate my practice in both areas. As matrimonial law has become more complex and often involves financial issues similar to what I deal with in the commercial arena, my experience in each area enhances the other. Beermann LLP has many skilled and dedicated attorneys who work with me on cases as needed.. Although I settle the vast majority of my cases (which is my main goal and usually in the client's best interest), I have extensive trial and appellate experience, including approximately 200 appeals in the state and federal appellate courts. Much of my appellate work involves referrals from other attorneys.. My family law practice includes prenuptial agreements and every aspect of parentage (paternity) and divorce, including complex financial cases, child custody and removal, and post-decree. I have represented clients nationwide in family law and other matters on a pro hac vice basis, as well as in international child custody and other family law disputes. In addition to traditional litigation, I represent clients in various Alternate Dispute Resolution Methods, including mediation and Cooperative Law to achieve fair settlements in an amicable and cost-effective way.. I am a Past President of the Appellate Lawyers Association of Illinois and have lectured and published widely on appeals, family law topics, and other legal subjects.. I am recognized in The Best Lawyers in America in the categories of family law and appellate law; by the Leading Lawyers Network in family law and civil appeals; Marquis' Who's Who in America (2011); and as an Illinois Super Lawyer in family law in Chicago Magazine every year since 2005. I rated "AV Preeminent" under the Martindale-Hubbell ® Lawyer Rating System (5.0 out of 5), based on performance in the following key areas: legal knowledge, analyticial abilities, judgment, communication ability, and legal experience.
