I have had the priviledge of trying cases from Virginia to California, and many places in between.  Representing the medical and nursing profession in today’s world requires a fast, responsive approach. Over the past 20+ years of my practice, my healthcare clients have become diversified across the State of Ohio and across the country.. In years past, clients used to only hire firms in the town where the matter was pending. This is no longer the case. With current technologies, we are connected to our complete resources 24/7 – no matter the jurisdiction. To truly concentrate on one field of practice requires we will be where you are, when you need us. Our philosophy is to put your interests first, provide an aggressive defense and examine those details that will differentiate our work from any other firm.. I have represented medical, nursing and healthcare cases for both large and small providers. Just as the plaintiff’s bar is becoming more organized and more focused, we are responding to this challenge. This has resulted in many successful outcomes.. I defend cases involving all areas of medicine including birth trauma, neonatology, nephrology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, pediatric surgery, vascular surgery, pulmonology, internal medicine, family medicine, anesthesia, radiology, otolaryngology, pathology, physical therapy and many different issues involving nursing care.. The defense of such a diverse array of medical and nursing issues requires intensive coordination with the best experts in the field of your specialty to facilitate jury comprehension and understanding. This results in a high level of success on the most catastrophic cases.

I consider myself very lucky.  Some of my early experiences are unique in my generation.  I started my education in a true one room school house in a rural area of upstate New York.  K through 8th grade in a single room with a coal stove as the only heat.  I was only there for two years, but I always felt protected by the older kids.. In 1956 my paternal grandfather died, and we moved back to the farm where my Dad was raised, a small town called Nassau, also upstate and not to be confused with the county on Long Island.  His Great Uncle was still operating the farm as his parents had.  A handful of cows, milked by hand.  Two draft horses to pull the various ancient pieces of equipment.  Loose hay, pitched onto the wagon by hand.  I can't say that I loved it, but you never fully recover from sheer hard work!!  And you don't suffer from it either.. I can contrast these truly bucolic pictures with working my way through law school in Columbus as a clerk in a Hospital Emergency Room.  The contrast between pitching hay on a warm summer day and dealing with the consistently stressed out people who populate an urban ER could not be greater.. For a number of years while practicing law I also had the privilege of being a supernumerary in the local opera company productions.  My high point was portraying a high church official, in the spotlight, with one of the stars, the evil Baron Scarpia, kneeling at my feet.  These non-singing, silent roles RARELY involve more than filling up the stage.  A brief moment in the spotlight for a fellow who can't sing a note was an outstanding memorable moment.. It has been a lot of fun, and always interesting.  I've been lucky.

I believe that to be able to adequately evaluate a case and advise a client an attorney must have experience dealing with cases in court. I have handled cases in nearly half of Ohio's 88 counties. It is this experience that allows me the ability to negotiate favorable resolutions outside of the courtroom as well as obtain them in the courtroom.. I believe in a dual focus approach to litigation. I feel that an attorney should always work to resolve a case without a trial to avoid the costs, both financially and emotionally, that clients have with litigation. I also believes at the same time that an attorney should be preparing the case for trial. This dual focus allows the attorney to be prepared for all issues that arise and provide the client with the best alternatives and results in their cases.. An attorney that is experienced in the courtroom and is not afraid to litigate a case can often provide a better perspective for clients on the reasonableness of their position as well as the likelihood of succeeding on various issues by litigation.. My passion for Family Law has given me the opportunity to also teach future lawyers. I serve as an Adjunct Professor of Law at The Ohio State University Micheal E. Moritz College of Law. At OSU, I developed a teach a course on Divorce Trial Practice.
