Since 1989, Ann K. Johnston, managing partner of Berger Kahn’s Northern California office, has focused her practice on defense of commercial and personal lines, first and third party insurance and bad faith cases. She has first chair trial experience, and has lectured on claim handling issues at legal education conferences, as well as at insurance company seminars for claim personnel. Melissa Hoffman obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State University with a major in Political Science and minors in Criminal Justice and Psychology. She is a National Dean’s List graduate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and has worked in the legal field for over sixteen years.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Melissa Hoffman worked for ten years as a paralegal in California in various practice areas, including personal injury, mechanics liens, contract disputes, construction law, corporate disputes, wrongful death actions, trademark infringement, copyright infringement and business formation.. Ms. Hoffman is well versed in all aspects of Workers’ Compensation and civil litigation, including law & motion, written discovery, depositions, expert witness preparation, presentation of evidence, and trial preparation.  She has taken and/or defended approximately 150 depositions and has successfully settled numerous cases.. Ms. Hoffman is admitted to practice before the State Bar of California, the United States District Court, Southern District of California and the United States District Court, Central District of California.

After 42 years practicing law, we know a thing or two because we've see a thing or two.   When I am not advising clients and resolving their legal issues, I am an avid father and husband who is always planning the next adventure on bicycles, skis, hiking trails, rivers and museums.  After College, I spent a decade working with the Outward Bound Schools leading Wilderness Courses in the Sierras, Death Valley, Oregon and Colorado.  I currently serve as the Vice-Chair of the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee for the Town of Corte Madera and I run the Safe Routes to Schools Program for the Larkspur Corte Madera School District.
