If you are charged with a DUI or DUID, or other criminal charges,I can help you. Over the years I have both defended clients and prosecuted defendants so I understand what the prosecuter in your case is thinking.  I first "work your case", which means I look at every angle and every piece of evidence in your case. I have been successful in trying cases to jury trials and also dealing with prosecutors in getting the very best plea for my client.  This includes dismissals, Reckless Driving, Deferred Judgement and Sentence (DJS), DWAI, and other outcomes.. There are many ways you can "win" with your DUI case.  Sometimes a person has a record of prior "DUI" convictions and if we cannot beat the evidence in your case, then getting very little jail and work release is what that client considers a "win" in his/her case.  Also, there are other ways to win.  You can go to trial and win and get acquitted; or you can get a "Non-Alcohol" result such as a plea to Careless Driving or Reckless Driving.  I have gotten many of these for my clients.  Also, there is a "Deferred Judgment and Sentence" in some jurisdictions which means that after you do the treatment and other requirements, the Court will DISMISS your case.. I was born in Port Arthur, Texas and raised in the Golden Triangle of Texas.  I completed my B.S. degree from Auburn University after only 2 1/2 years of study.  I began working as a police officer at 21 years old.  I was a college professor with two masters degrees at age 26.  By age 30, I was finishing law school.  I have since completed a third masters degree and defended over 2000 people who have been accused of crimes.  My experience as a defense lawyer includes over 100 jury trials.. Outside of my law practice, I am actively involved in fitness.  I have practiced Gracie Jiu Jitsu for 13 years.  I am very competitive and I fight for my clients in court the way I fight on the jiu jitsu mat.  I use my knowledge, creativity, and experience to get the best results for my clients.

I was admitted to the practice of Law in 1974. In the 44 years since then I have devotedmy career to representing folks who have been put upon by the powers of the State and Federal Government. My clients most often face the loss of their property, freedom as well as the Death Pemalty. I work tirelessly to protect them against the inexhaustible resourse of the government and get them home safe as quickly as possible.. I was a bad alcoholic and cocaine abuser for a number of years.  Through good luck and tremendoul outpouring of love and support from my family, friends and the profession I have been given reprieve from that hell for close to 15 years. Now in my life and work I am well suited to understand and advocate for those who are still suffering the consequences of their bad choices and addictions. I devote as much time and energy as it takes to be of assistance to suffering members of my profession.. I am an avid skier. I was a member of the National Ski Patrol when I was In College. I was a ski racer and a member of the USSA for many years.. I am an avid horseman. I have been a member of the Roundup Riders of the Rockies for a number of years.  I have played polo for 30 years and a member of the USPA .  I have been a mounted fox hunter for 30 years and member of the MFHA.  I also enjoy show jumping.. I am an avid hunter. My favorite is upland game. I also enjoy Mountain hiking and climbing.. I enjoy restoring old cars.. I owned and operated a working Navaho Churro sheep ranch in San Miguel county New Mexico for 20 years.

I learned from an early age what the power of the state can do to a family. I know from personal experience that the justice system is not always just. I never lived in an ivory tower, and I do not want to live in one. I know that innocent people are accused of crimes every day. I apologize to no one for the work I have done for the wrongly accused. I graduated from Occidental College and quickly passed up professional athletic opportunities at home and abroad to pursue my passion in the law. While I was a student at the University of Denver School of Law, I worked long into the night to be successful in my classes while working full time as an intern for the district attorneys office and balancing raising a daughter with my second on the way. I maintained a high GPA and accomplished my goals. I know what work means. I do not know what life is without hard work. I will never give you less than my best.. When I passed the bar exam, I was immediately offered a job in prosecution. I applied my work ethic and quickly moved through the ranks of the DA’s office. I tried cases on a weekly basis and honed my trial skills throughout my five year prosecution career. I learned the politics that all DA’s have to deal with. I learned what juries think about real cases, and I learned the skills that are truly needed to bring justice to each case. I worked my way from an intern, to a line deputy, to a county court supervisor in both Douglas and Arapahoe counties. I worked diligently in juvenile prosecution, and I learned the every day politics and pitfalls that every family in that system should know. I prosecuted felonies and saw how perilous it is for a defendant to face a felony without the help of an attorney. I learned how the system will fail you. I spent a long time training DA’s, training the police, and training myself on how to properly administer justice. I have successfully tried countless cases. I understand the system you that has accused you and how to deal with the politics that stand in the way of a truly just result. I believe that the only thing that stands between the government an justice is a truly great defense attorney. I am that attorney, and I am in the prime of my career.. When I was a prosecutor, I learned from the best of the best. I honed my skills and learned their weaknesses. They are not weak, and they have a lot of power; my experience can protect you. I have practiced criminal defense law since 1986.  I have done the majority of my work as a public defender working in the Colorado State Public Defender system for 20 years.  I have also worked as a federal public defender and worked in private practice.  I believe in my clients and fight hard for them.  I have represented people charged with 1st Degree Murder, Assault, Sex Assault, Child Abuse, Fraud, Weapon offenses, Illegal Reentry, Drugs, False Information to a Pawn Broker, and DUI along with other charges.  I was the president of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and worked on the board for numerous years leading up to it.
