I’m a Colorado native, although you’d never know it as I spent the majority of my life travelling from place to place with my family. Every new school taught me how to relate to people as individuals, which is how I found my way into family law.. As a child of divorced parents, I recognize the challenges that stem from family systems change. I chose to pursue a legal career in domestic relations law in order to help guide families through change, teach families how to avoid relationship breakdown, and create paradigms to keep families together.. I returned to Colorado in 2000 as a Division I lacrosse player at the University of Denver. As a lifelong athlete, I’ve learned the meaning of the words discipline, commitment, and excellence. Off the field, I earned a B.A. in Psychology as well as the University of Denver’s Shaklee-Trowill Research Award for my work in trauma and stress studies.. My family settled in Minneapolis and I travelled home to complete by legal studies at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. While in law school I took advantage of every opportunity I could to work with families in a state of transition.. Most weekends I can be found playing flag football, hiking, camping, skiing, and creating craft beer in my kitchen.

As legal and general counsel to closely and more widely held businesses and professional practices, I advise my clients in the areas of corporate governance, entity formation, employment matters, financing, IP licensing, marketing/distribution, mergers and acquisitions, protection of trade secrets and intellectual property, purchase and acquisition matters, real estate transactions, risk management, shareholder/ownership disputes, and the  myriad legal issues and challenges that business enterprises face on a daily basis.. I assist clients in resolving commercial, organizational and personal disputes through negotiation, mediation and, when necessary, litigation. I am a trained, neutral mediator and as both an advocate and mediator have successfully resolved many complex disputes without litigation.. I approach my clients first as a business or businessperson with many interests and concerns apart from the legal issues on which my counsel and advice are sought. I work to develop an understanding and appreciation of my client’s broader business concerns and interests so that my legal counsel and services make business sense and fit my client’s overall business positioning and strategy.  I am viewed by my clients as a valued advisor to their ongoing business interests and concerns.

I have experience in various types of personal injury matters, including auto accidents, premises liability, and medical malpractice, as well as insurance bad faith disputes.. I also have a wide range of experience advocating on behalf of clients in the area of business law. My clients have included individuals and large businesses in myriad industries such as healthcare, private equity, technology, and natural and organic food. I have handled complex issues in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, start-up ventures, and commercial contracts. Through this experience, I have developed exceptional negotiation and analytical skills, which has led to successful results for my clients.. Prior to founding Leventhal Sar LLC, I spent several years working as an attorney at O’Melveny & Myers, one of the oldest and largest law firms in Los Angeles. Most recently, I worked at the Denver office of Polsinelli PC – the fastest growing U.S. law firm.. I graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School and was an Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, one of the most widely circulated student-edited law reviews.. I have lived in Denver for most of my life. I enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and spending time with my wife and son, as well as friends and family. I recently volunteered as a reading buddy for third graders, and served on a philanthropic grant-making board for the Rose Community Foundation.

I believe the only way to secure any meaningful justice for someone is to be ready and willing to take his or her case to trial.  I only represent people I care about, trust and believe in.  I maintain a small caseload so I am ready, willing and able to go the distance for each of my clients.

I am originally from Kentucky and have lived in Colorado for 18 years. I have had an opportunity to live all across this great state from the Denver Metro Area to Durango and points in between. I am truly thankful for the variety of legal experiences that I have had throughout my career and I think it has shaped the way that I practice law. I have made it my goal to practice with integrity and professionalism because I recognize that reflects not only on me but on my clients. My goal is to give my clients as much information as possible to enable them to make the informed decisions necessary to accomplish their goals and solve their legal issues.

I am a trial lawyer and have successfully tried both civil and criminal cases for thirty years. I have won murder trials, many other felonies, and countless misdemeanors and I have also been active in community service throughout my career, having been a founder of the Art Students League of Denver, , Chaired the Denver section of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) in Colorado, among others.. Creativity in Law is necessary.. To be an excellent lawyer, you need to be creative. As a litigator, I need to be creative in coming up with arguments on behalf of my clients, in applying case law to those arguments, and even in determining what defenses to bring. It means I bring creativity to my cases and expertise in ways that build the best possible defenses and strategies. I have helped many lawyers manage and evaluate their cases in the most creative way possible to prepare for and win even the most difficult trials.. I am also a creative artist and oil painter, painting nearly every day. The practice of painting keeps me happy and energized for my daily law practice.
