Harley Erbe is the founder of Erbe Law Firm, a small firm that provides personalized attention while delivering large firm results. Harley has stood side-by-side with our clients since 2005 and faced the largest law firms in Iowa and throughout the nation. We have routinely done so in our car accident, personal injury, insurance law, construction defect, and employment law cases.. It takes courage to stand before a jury and argue for a client. It also requires hard work and skill to prepare for and properly conduct a jury trial. Harley's membership in numerous trial lawyer organizations, including the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Litigation Counsel of America, demonstrates his courage, work ethic, skill, and experience in presenting cases to juries.. We don't just dabble in any legal matters that come our way. Although we have expertise in other areas of law, we have focused our skill and learning on car accident, personal injury, employment law, construction defect, and insurance law cases. We chose to be specialists, not generalists, to ensure that we're ready for select types of cases when we're called to duty.. As you can see from our blog, we stay current on applicable court decisions from Iowa and throughout the nation. We do that to educate not only ourselves on the most current state of the law but also visitors to our site who may be seeking more specific information about a particular legal topic.

Gina is experienced with criminal defense (both state and federal), appeals, postconviction relief, and personal injury cases.. Examples of Gina's results:. • Civil rights lawsuit settlement: Gina settled a civil rights lawsuit for $75,000 on behalf of two African-American men who were wrongfully stopped by Des Moines Police. • Dismissed case: A Polk County judge dismissed a criminal charge against an African American man represented by Gina. The judge agreed with Gina that the man should never have been approached by police to begin with, and so the police had violated the man’s constitutional rights. • Not guilty verdict: A Polk County jury deliberated for only 15 minutes before finding Gina’s client Keilon Hill NOT GUILTY of harassment of a public official. Mr. Hill was canvassing for a political candidate in West Des Moines when a local resident reported him as a “suspicious person.” Mr. Hill repeatedly asked the responding officer if he had broken any laws and received no answer. The officer arrested Mr. Hill after Mr. Hill asked the officer to leave him alone and walked away. The jury agreed with Gina that asserting your right to be left alone is not a crime. • Murder conviction overturned: Gina represented a young woman who was convicted of killing her toddler and was serving a life sentence. Gina convinced the judge to overturn the 1st degree murder conviction and order a new trial for the client. The judge granted a new trial because Gina was able to establish that the client’s trial attorney made several serious errors at the client’s first trial.

Gary attended the University of Texas where he secured a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and he majored in accounting and the business honors program. Gary worked in the kitchen at his dorm in college. He worked full time in the summer months delivering appliances. Gary made partner at a litigation boutique by 1999 and was Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law that same year.. During his time in law school, Gary met his future wife who graduated from the University of Iowa in 1980. Julie Coates lived in the small town of Cromwell (Gary likes to call this a suburb of Creston). They were married in Cromwell in 1985. Julie formally worked at Simpson College. Their children attended college in Iowa and live in Warren County. Their family now includes three dogs, a cat, and they live in the beautiful state that is Iowa. Gary loves the outdoors and enjoys watching his neighbors plant and harvest their corn, soybeans, and hay fields..
