I was the first person in my family in more than seven generations to attend college. I grew up poor and very disadvantaged but with a deep sense of how fortunate I was. I attended public schools throughout my education, including law school, and developed an appreciation of how unfair our society, and particularly the criminal justice system, could be for people who were poor, uneducated, or who looked differently and the degree of injustice seemed to directly correspond to the seriousness of the offense and the accused's disadvantages. For most of my career I worked representing indigent defendants - including approximately 150 who were facing the death penalty - in the same zealous and aggressive way that people with means expect from our system. I continue to approach each of my client's as individuals in need of my help, and their cases as the most important and honorable way to utilize my skills and experience. You should expect nothing less.
I was raised in the woods and water of Calvert County, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. My parents taught me at a young age that everything in life is about trust and relationships. Be honest, do your best to help people, and always believe in what you do.. At age 14, my parents sent me to work for his grandfather’s marine mechanic business to “build character.” Hauling toolboxes in the summer heat on the docks of the Waterfront in Washington, D.C. did indeed build character, and I develop a strong work ethic as a result. I learned that there is pride in doing even the “dirtiest” jobs and satisfaction in honest pay for honest work.. I became fascinated with courts and the world of law in elementary school, where I would rush home every day to watch the O.J. Simpson trial on TV with my dad. I saw early on how powerful good advocacy can be. I carried this passion for advocacy through to the high school mock trial team and eventually to the George Mason University School of Law, where I graduated with honors.. Out of law school, I worked in private practice in northern Virginia. Excited to help anyone who needed a good advocate, I have handled a wide range of legal matters. From jury trials to local zoning board meetings and appeals to the Supreme Court of Virginia, my passion for advocacy has taken me anywhere that my clients need me to go!. I live in Herndon, Virginia and am huge a film buff. I enjoy discovering hidden gem movies, both old and new. I am always be happy to talk to you about what you have seen recently or some old favorites you revisit again and again.
I try to help clients make the best use of an initial interview as possible by encouraging them to bring as much financial information with them to the initial interview as they can. I do this so that I can help the client understand the range of results likely if their case is tried (assuming the information they provide is accurate) and upon what the range depends.. Knowing the likely result of a trial helps the client and I decide together on the strategy which is most likely to be both effective and cost effective, set a reasonable budget for the case and helps the client recognize a good settlement offer should one be made.
I take great pride in providing the very best representation services that I can to my clients by drawing on the skills that I have developed through my education, previous employment and being a lawyer for the last 8 years. I see a new client's case as an opportunity to help that person in a time of need whether it involves defending a alleged crime or drafting a last will and testament.. When I have free time, I enjoy playing golf and being outdoors.

During law school, I gained practical experience in criminal law through internships at the Fairfax County Public Defender's Office, the Federal Public Defender's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the Commonwealth Attorney's Office for Arlington County, where I handled misdemeanor trials..
