The Law Offices of David Marshall Brown, P.A. is a solo practice owned and operated by myself, David Marshall Brown, Esq. The youngest of five and originally from the Chicago area and educated in Illinois, Florida and Georgia, I graduated cum laude in1985 from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton and received my Juris Doctorate Degree in 1989 from the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens. From 1989 through 1991, I was Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Lamar W. Davis, Jr., Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Georgia in Savannah. From 1991 through 1993, I was an Attorney for the United States Trustee’s Office, Department of Justice, in Miami where I was assigned to both the Miami and West Palm Beach Divisions, took an active oversight role in Chapter 11 cases and worked with the standing panel Trustees. In 1993, I worked for a small boutique bankruptcy firm in Miami, but unfortunately that firm dissolved shortly after my arrival. As soon as that door started to close, another opened and, from1993 through 1995, I Clerked for the Honorable Raymond B. Ray, one of the first sitting Bankruptcy Judges here in Fort Lauderdale. As Judicial Law Clerk, my job duties consisted of research and writing for the Courts. After my second Judicial Clerkship, I worked for a small commercial litigation firm in Fort Lauderdale from 1995 through 1997, primarily doing foreclosure work from the Plaintiff’s side, construction litigation, general commercial litigation and bankruptcy litigation. In 1997, I joined a Plantation Law Firm as in-house counsel for a Chapter 7 Trustee and did bankruptcy work, foreclosure defense and corporate merger work. In 1998, I formed the original David Marshall Brown, P.A., which remained in the same office building here in Fort Lauderdale until I brought in a young partner and the firm grew out of its space and moved up the road, also in Fort Lauderdale. In 2012, I decided to part ways with my partner and go back to the one on one client contact that I started with and so enjoyed so that I again have full control of my cases and client communications. My practice remains focused primarily on bankruptcy and bankruptcy related litigation, foreclosure defense, business law and consumer law, including probate, wills and trusts and essentially a general practice. If your case involves an area with which I am unfamiliar, I have a network of trusted colleagues to whom I can refer you. I am conveniently located just blocks from the state and federal courthouses here in Fort Lauderdale and with easy access to the interstate highways for Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Fort Myers cases.. Licenses:. I am a member of the Florida and Georgia Bars and the Federal Bar for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division which means I am licensed to practice in the State and Federal Courts throughout Florida, the State and Federal Courts throughout Georgia, and the Federal Courts in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, essentially the Chicago area.
