John Ballard is a third generation attorney following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jack Butler, and his father before him, General Howard Butler. Born and raised in Williamson County, John has spent his life in Middle Tennessee. Upon graduating with a Philosophy degree from Samford University he enrolled in Nashville School of Law where he went to school at night while working at his grandfather's law practice during the day. After learning the law from one of Nashville's legendary attorneys John spent two years as Judge Seth Norman's court officer in Davidson County Criminal Court Division IV. Working for Judge Norman gave John a unique opportunity to get to know attorneys as well as criminal defendants before graduating Law School in 2014, wherein he was awarded the Moot Court Award.. John began his law practice at 1308 Rosa Parks Blvd with over a dozen of Nashville's best criminal defense attorneys. While developing a criminal defense practice, John learned that there was a need for a robust law practice that could serve many different legal needs of the community. It may be a dispute regarding insurance, government, or regulations, and knowing the right people and how to navigate seemingly complex issues is important.. While working to find a solution without litigation is important, sometimes the only way to resolve an issue is to let the judge decide. John has spent most of his career in court arguing and winning cases in front of judges and juries on a myriad of issues. His background means that he is familiar with not only the courts but the judges, attorneys, and court staff as well. He is comfortable in the courtroom litigating complex issues because he comes prepared and outworks the other side.. John has recently moved his main office to Franklin, Tennessee and brings with him the experience, knowledge, and reputation from Nashville, but also as a native to Williamson County.

If you are looking for an experienced Court Room Lawyer, who will fight for you and aggressively represent you, then, give me a call.  I practice in all Courts in Tennessee and Federal District Court.  I have practiced law in WilliamsonCounty(Fanklin, Tennessee) for 31 years.  Whether you have a case in General Sessions Court like a DUI, Simple Possession, Shoplifting, a Probation Violation or something more serious in the Circuit Criminal Court like Burglary, Robbery or Felony Drug charges, give me a call and let's discuss your particular case.   Never go to court without representation by an experienced Attorney.. My primary area of practice is CRIMINAL DEFENSE.   I have handled thousands of Criminal cases over the past 31 years as both a lawyer and a Judge for 15 years.  About half my  cases are defending citizens just like you who have been charged with Driving Under the Influence(DUI).   Most people arrested for  DUI's are just ordinary citizens like you and me.  Most have never been arrested before and most have absolutely no Criminal record whatsoever.. If you have been arrested for a DUI, please give me a call and let's talk about  the circumstances under which you were arrested.   Did you take a BAC?  Did the officer give you a Field Sobriety Test, or did you refuse?  What was the reason for the officer to make the initial traffic stop and ultimately the arrest?   The smallest tidbit of information can turn your case from a conviction to a dismissal.   Give me a call and let me evaluate your case.. In addition to DUI's, about half of my practice is in representing citizens charged with just about every other crime in the book.   If you are charged with a crime, be it. Shoplifting, Theft, Burglary Robbery, a Probation Violation, Drugs, Parol violations, Misdemeanors of Felony Charges or perhaps you just want a lawyer to file a petition to have the Judge consider reducing your jail time, please give me a call and let's talk about the details of your case.  Every case is unique, just like a finger print. I will honestly evaluate your case and tell you what I think.  I would never want to overpromise and under deliver.     While I cannot guarantee the outcome of a case, I will promise to zealously represent you and do my very best to achieve your objectives.. Remember, although I have been a Judge for many years, I DO NOT JUDGE YOU, I REPRESENT YOU. Give me a call and let's talk in person about your case.

I began my legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles County and spent fifteen years there handling thousands of felony and misdemeanor cases.  Over that period, I tried almost 100 cases in front of juries ranging from DUI's to murders and almost everything in between.  The last five years of my time at the DA's office, I specialized in domestic violence, child sexual and physical abuse and human trafficking.  These are the crimes that involve people who are at the most vulnerable time in their lives.  I developed both the interpersonal skills as well as the trial skills that make me uniquely qualified to handle these types of cases as a defense attorney.
