I was born and raised in Greenville where my family has been an integral part of the upstate for over 125 years. After graduating from J.L. Mann High school, I earned my BA from the University of South Carolina and then my J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law. It was a natural choice for me to return to Greenville because I want to serve our community. I returned in 2004 where I began my legal career with the 13th Circuit Solicitors Office. During my 12 years of litigation as a prosecutor, I handled juvenile cases in Family Court, misdemeanor cases in Magistrate Court and felonies in General Sessions. For more than half of my career, I was a Deputy Solicitor and responsible for managing administrative and legal aspects of both the Greenville and Pickens offices. As unit head for the Violent Crimes Unit, I prosecuted a variety of complex cases such as Murder, Robbery, Burglary, Sexual Assault, DUI, Drugs, and Domestic Violence. In 2012, I was honored as the "Solicitor of the Year" by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. I am a graduate of Leadership Greenville County in 2012 and a graduate of Leadership Greenville Class 42 (2016).
I represent physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice litigation, including wrongful death, birth injury, and other high-exposure cases. I enjoy both trial and appellate work. I also advise hospitals and other healthcare providers on compliance with state and federal laws regarding peer review, HIPAA, and other matters. I also have broad experience in employment law, business litigation, and other complex litigation at Ogletree Deakins, where I represented employers in federal and state litigation involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, breach of contract, wage and hour disputes, non-compete covenants, and trade secrets. I have also counseled employers on compliance with complex state and federal wage and hour laws.
I knew at an early age that I wanted to practice law. I didn't know about contract lawyers, patent/trademark lawyers, etc. I only knew about the lawyers I saw on television shows. Trial lawyers who went to court and fought for their clients. That's what I've been doing for 25 years. I take great pleasure in helping people set their lives in order after serious injuries. I regularly try cases and am willing to go the distance for my clients. I continue to attend seminars and trial colleges so I can confidently represent you in court, if necessary.
