My entire legal career has been based in San Antonio, Texas, where I am a lifelong resident. I am the owner of South TX Family Law Group. From San Antonio, I have been privileged to represent clients in courts all across the State of Texas. I graduated in the top 10% of my law school class and have been practicing law for more than 35 years in Texas. I graduated "with Honors" from Baylor University and "with Distinction" from St. Mary's Law School in San Antonio. I was a briefing attorney for the 4th Court of Appeals in San Antonio, and I was twice named as one of the top appellate lawyers and a top Family Lawyer in "Scene in San Antonio" magazine. I am a strong advocate for children, and have represented children for 21 years in cases involving child protective services. I participated twice in a 20-mile walk to help prevent child abuse. I also represent many elderly people in wills, guardianships, probate and estate planning. I didn't become a lawyer until much later in life. I am a proud United States Navy Veteran and worked in aviation for over a dozen years before attending law school. My background is blue collar and rose through the ranks by working hard, being dedicated to the task at hand, and maintaining my integrity throughout everything. I have extensive experience in negotiations, conflict resolution, compliance and regulations, which sparked my interest in the law to begin with. Being licensed to practice in the great state of Texas has been the pinnacle of my career to date, as it has given me the opportunity to give client's the much needed "win" they may have never experienced before.. There is a reason lawyers have the reputation we do. There are more bad attorneys than good ones and to separate myself from the rest, I focus on customer service. You wouldn't go into a retail store to buy a 4K television and allow the sales associate to be rude or disrespectful. You would walk out and buy the set from someone who treated you the way you wanted to be treated. That is true in any service industry and sometimes some lawyers forget we are offering a service to our clients.. I have found in my practice that a majority of my clients do not understand what a retainer is or how it works. A retainer is like a savings account that the law firm holds for the client and has two functions. First, it protects you from paying an attorney a lot of your hard earned money and nothing is being done on your case. Second, it protects the lawyer in that at the end of the month when I send you an invoice for work that has been done in your matter, I pull the funds from the retainer. This ensures I have money to pay my rent, employee salaries, and other expenses. As I work your case and the retainer gets lower, it is my job to discuss the status of your case with you and let you know what we still have to do to achieve your goal. Then we discuss replenishing the retainer with more money to achieve the results you want. Once the matter is finalized and our relationship has ended, any balance left in the retainer is refunded to you.

As a native Texan who loves all things Texas, I love helping our community with their legal matters.  I travel across the state helping others and seeing this great land that I call home. I also have the wonderful experience of assisting clients that reside out-of-state, but that have legal concerns here in Texas.. It is always my goal to make this often difficult process as easy and painless for the client as possible.  I give my cell phone number out to clients along with all the other methods with which they may use to contact me.. Athough I love the courtroom, I realize this is not always the best answer for my clients, so I use my skills as a licensed mediator to assist them in the negotiation process.  This very often results in a settlement agreement which they are happy with becuase they had a part to play in the process.
