Prior to joining my current firm, I worked at a large law firm in Chicago where I represented clients throughout the United States in large complex litigation matters.  My current practice includes representation of Plaintiffs and Defendants in catasrophic injury cases as well as complex litigation matters involving corporate entities, municipalities and school districts.  I have tried cases in counties throughout Illinois and have represend clients in a wide range of administative proceedings including proceeding before the EEOC, IDHR and DOL. Most people who meet me know me as a husband and father of two daughters.  I'm a "dance dad" and softball coach, who likes to work hard fighting for my clients.  I also love to exercise.  I started going to CrossFit in March of 2016 and have lost over 70 pounds.  I also happen to be a highly reviewed attorney in the area, as well as the recipient of several honors, incuding being named a “Rising Star” attorney by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine, a designation limited to less than 2.5% of lawyers under 40 years of age in the State of Illinois and as an Emerging Lawyer by Leading Lawyers and recently the firm was named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best law firms in 2017.. I have spent my career practicing law in courtrooms and Illinois Workers' Compensation settings throughout Illinois, including Chicago, Dupage, Kane, Kendall, Will, Grundy and many more counties.  When I am not busy fighting for the rights of my clients, you can usually find me supporting my daughters at a dance competition or coaching softball.   I love coaching softball as it gives me the opportunity to teach the girls the proper way to play the game as well as pass on my knowledge as a former collegiate baseball player at North Central College, Go Cardinals!  If I am not doing one of the above you can find me working hard at the gym.. I also have a typical attorney story as well, I am a 2008 graduate of the Hamline University School of Law (after attending North Central College for undergraduate work).  Since that time my practice area has been exclusively workers' compensation and personal injury.  I concentrate my practice on representing those who are injured by others.

In 1985, Mr. Hammel earned his degree in Bachelors of Science from the Marquette University College of Business.  Subsequently, he was employed at the Continental National Bank of Chicago for one year.  During law school, he clerked for the United States Army Judge Advocate Generals Office VII Corp, Munich Germany.  In 1989, he received his Juris Doctor from the John Marshall School of Law in Chicago.  After two years as a Will County Assistant Public Defender, he established Hammel Law Offices, P.C., in Joliet, Illinois.  In 2005, he merged with Brumund & Jacobs, and subsequently worked extensively in the areas of criminal, traffic and DUI offenses.   He is an annual instructor at the Will County Bar Association’s seminar regarding DUI and traffic offenses, and assisted in many prior ISBA seminars. In 2002, he became qualified to administer field sobriety testing in the State of Illinois, and has testified in many Will County Cases regarding the administration of field sobriety testing.  His cases in the area of DUI/Criminal law are:  People v.
