Weldon E. Patterson was born in Harlan, Kentucky. He attended Tennessee Technological University (B.S., 1984), and The University of Tennessee (M.S., 1986; J.D., with Honors, 1988), and was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1989. He was an Assistant Editor for the Tennessee Law Review.
