Lee R. Taylor holds a B.A. in Psychology from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and his J.D. law degree from the Mercer University School of Law. While still in law school, he had already started his career in the legal profession as part of the university’s third-year practice program. Taylor has considerable experience on both sides of the courtroom: Before moving into a private practice that involves both civil litigation and criminal defense cases, he had served as an assistant district attorney for Dalton, GA; as city attorney for the city of Ellijay, GA, and as county attorney for Gilmer County, GA during the 1990s, a time of transition for the county from rural Appalachian community to suburb of the greater Atlanta metropolitan region.. He went on to serve as Special Assistant Attorney General for the state Department of Transportation and also for the state Department of Human Resources – dealing with rights-of-way cases, title transfers and condemnation litigation for the former, with cases for the Division of Family and Children Services for the latter.. Taylor is a certified mediator who has worked in general and domestic relations dispute resolution. In Ellijay, he was an active member of the United Methodist Church. In other parts of his life, he can boast extensive experience in the creation of stoneware pottery, stemming from his family’s pottery business. An active member of the Lexington Baptist Church, he resides with his wife, Rebecca, on a family farm in Rockbridge County, where Taylor says the current crop is horses. The Taylors have four children.

I started at a larger firm where I was an associate and later partner, for 17 years.   I began as a young lawyer doing bank work, but my heart grew to be more passionate about working on  the debtor side of the table, trying to save businesses, or wind them down in the best way possible.    “The early years of my practice are invaluable to me, because I got to both write and argue so many motions in different courts across the Commonwealth, and learned to think about what the banks are looking for in a situation. I learned a lot of law in the process. As a debtor or committee lawyer, being able to understand and work with the other parties is an absolute necessity.”  I  believe in always trying to resolve issues consensually, while simultaneously preparing to go argue the matter in court if necessary. After 17 years, in 2003, I left to start my own firm, and it has been a true learning experience. As a small business owner myself, I have gained an unbelievable amount of insight that big-firm lawyers just don't have.. Outside of the office, I enjoy working in the yard, traveling, reading, and spending quality R&R time with my husband and grown children. I'm currently working on some writing in the hopes of soon going on the road to teach and help others with all that I have learned the hard way.  I'm  passionate about helping our retirees and our young families figure out how to strengthen their personal finances in our current tough economic times, as well as all the looming governmental debt burdens which I foresee as a ticking bomb.   Unfortunately,  I have seen first hand how ugly bad debt situations can be.

I graduated Georgetown Universitry Law Center in May, 1989.  After completing a one-year clerkship with the Hon. James F. Queenan, Jr., United States Bankrutpcy Judge for the District of Massachusetts, I joined the Boston office of the international firm of Hale and Dorr n/k/a WilmerHale.  I spent six years with that firm, practicing bankruptcy law and litigation and received excellent training by some of the best attorneys I have ever met.  I have litigated at least 750 cases in 28 years of private practice and been involved in scores of appeals.  I am passionate about the practice of law, always striving to achieve excellent results for all my clients.  I have been married for 22 years and have two children, a son who is 17 and a daughter who is 15.  We have lived in Central Kentucky since October, 2005.
