In addition to my legal practice, I have started companies, served as the executive director of a non-profit, and continue to serve as a general advisor to startups and small businesses. I understand both the business and legal world and am an effective bridge between the two for my clients. I focus primarily on business planning, corporate governance, contract review and negotiation, and business litigation. By working with me, you can be assured that you are getting a trusted advisor that wants to help build your business instead of someone who view you as just another payday.. I moved to Kentucky in 1993 when my father retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and I will always consider Kentucky my true home. Before attending the University of Louisville, I graduated from Eastern High School in Jefferson County.
I went to law school to try to help people. My father had medical issues, while I was growing up. I saw how people were hurt through no fault of their own. In many cases, they were left with no recourse. That fact both surprised and disappointed me.. As an attorney, I'm able to step in and help people when they need it the most. I'm trained to seek justice. I'm also a human being. I try never to forget both of those factors when I'm representing my clients. There's a legal sense of justice, but there's also an emotional (and financial) sense of justice. I strive to deliver both for my clients.
I was a phychology major in my undergraduate studies. I enjoy helping people through tough times in their lives, such as divorce and custody disputes. The transactional nature of real estate and estate planning is a nice mix, since family law cases can be very emotional. Also, my real estate background is helpful in divorce cases, since real estate is often a major asset in divorces. I pride myself on giving my clients the individual attention that they deserve and on applying nearly 20 years of experience to their case to ensure the best possible results.

I have worked for 4 United States Presidents and their National Campaing Staffs;. I have had legal postions at the US Trea. Dept ,Office of the General Council Veterans Asst Sec at the Dept. of HUD and Senior Advior for Iraq at the US Dept of Defense (DOD)
I have over 25 years of experience in criminal law. I began my career in 1986 as Chief Narcotics Prosecutor in the Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office (Louisville's first "Drug Czar"). I have developed an intimate knowledge of how prosecution works, and I use this knowledge to aggressively manage a client's defense.. Criminal investigations can devastate people's lives. Overzealous prosecutors can make good people feel bad, and questions raised during investigations can color the opinions of colleagues, friends and relatives. I believe defending a client is not just about the legal issues - it's personal and emotional. In order to provide the best defense, it is important to really care about the client - to walk a mile in their shoes.
I have directed my own legal practice for 33 years. During my years as an attorney, I have provided legal services and litigated claims for a multitude of satisfied clients. My practice involves issues related to personal injury and criminal defense.. I represent persons injured in car crashes, retail stores, rental properties, etc. through the negligence of others. I litigate cases regarding direct and indirect injury to health and property from oil and gas operations through civil claims for damages due to industry negligence, products liability, trespass, nuisance, and fraud.. I represent people charged with crimes from misdemeanors to felonies. I also represent people charged with traffic matters and before the Department of Motor Vehicles.
I have devoted my practice to family law and employment law. I employ a client-centered approach to my practice. I developed this approach because I noticed that many lawyers simply instruct their clients without ever listening to what they have say. I, first, listen to my clients. Then I collobrate with them, empower them with my legal knowledge and experience, and develop a course of action that serves their interest.. I understand the complexities of employment cases, and emotional unrest that occurs in family law cases. My experience has equipped me to address both. I look forward to talking with you about your case.

I have been practicing in the estate planning area since 1982. I have an undergraduate degree in accounting, so I have always been interested in the tax planning aspects of estate planning, as well as working with individuals. I have worked in virtually all phases of estate planning, including the preparation of comperehensive (and often complex) estate plans, including working with owners of closely held businesses, nonprofit organizations, professionals, and a great variety of interesting people. Each family situation presents unique opportunities (and often challenges) and I try to approach each client as if they were a member of my own family.. With the birth (adoption) of my two special needs children in the early 1990's, I became very interested in planning for special needs children. This work has enabled me to not only help my clients, but to also learn from them! Together we work to solve the individual special needs planning situation in order to maximize total resources available to the special needs individual. This includes maximimizing government benefits such as Social Security and Medicaid, arranging appropriate Trustee and advisory roles, identifying service-providers who may be able to help the individual in his or her special situation, providing for maximum flexibility for unforseen circumstances, etc. I prepare estate plans for clients with special needs loved ones (so called "third party" special needs trusts), as well "first party" special needs trusts for disabled individuals who may have received an unplanned inheritance, a lawuit settlement, etc. Without the use of a special needs trust, the disabled person may lose his or her benefits and we can avoid that outcome in the vast majority of cases.. My practice if very personalized and has brought me great personal and professional satisfaction for well over 30 years.
I have been practicing in the area of personal injury since 1998 with an emphasis on litigaiton. I have tried cases in both Kentucky and Indiana and have handled numerous appeals in the state and federal courts of both states. I have been an attorney since 1999. My practice emphasizes probate litigation, including contested guardianships and conservatorships, fiduciary representation, and other will and trust litigation. Prior to joining the firm in 2002, I worked for the Aurora Public Defender where I tried more than 50 jury trials. I have lectured before the Colorado Bar Association, Boulder County Bar Association and at other programs on topics such as probate litigation and ethics. I am a member of the Executive Council of The Colorado Bar Association’s Elder Law Section and a member of the Boulder County Bar Association. I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee. I earned my B.A. degree from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and my J.D. degree from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. When I am not in the office, I spend my free time with my wife and two young daughters. I also enjoy golf, skiing, fantasy football and pulling for my beloved Oklahoma Sooner football team.
I have been a practicing attorney in Kentucky for over 37 years, most of which was as a prosecutor in the County Attorney's office. My experience is in the area of criminal law and family law as a prosecutor, so that is also what I practice as a private attorney.. My goal is to help you resolve your case/situation. Attendant to this goal is my desire to help you not repeat behaviors that have caused some trouble in the past.. I have a cat named Bubba, and I love to do needlework of various kinds. I have taught lots of people how to knit, crochet, cross-stitch and needlepoint, and find much enjoyment in doing so. I also work crossword and sudoku puzzles, and play the piano. Most of all I enjoy spending time with family and friends.
I grew up in Western Kentucky where I was very close to my grandmother, who died with Alzheimer’s the day before I entered law school. Having grown up knowing and loving Mamaw and other seniors, I was disheartened as I saw how elderly individuals are often discounted by society. I strive to treat my clients as I would want Mamaw to be treated.
I grew up in Louisville and graduated from Ballard High School, went to UK for my undergraduate degree in Finance, and attended Chase College of Law in Northern Kentucky. I am licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in Kentucky as well as state courts in Indiana. I am passionate about helping my clients achieve their goals and am dedicated to their success, no matter their needs.
I focus my practice on assisting and representing individuals in employment law matters. I practice in all state and federal courts in Kentucky. I handle a variety of employment litigation cases stemming from discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, and retaliation claims under State and Federal Laws, including Title VII, the ADEA and ADA, the FMLA, and the Kentucky Civil Rights Act, as well as breach of contract and wage claims. Throughout my legal career I have also drafted, reviewed, and advised on employment agreements, including non-compete and non-solicitation agreements and severance and release agreements.
I first became interested in becoming a lawyer after reading books about noted trial lawyers such as Gerry Spence, Race Horse Haynes and Melvin Belli. I was inspired by their stories to go to law school even though I had already graduated from college and owned a successful business. I sold my business, was admitted to law school and dedicated myself to learning everything I could about being a courtroom lawyer.. I learned that trying a case well is a skill that can’t be learned just from books. It takes a lot of experience in a courtroom to really develop the ability.. I have now been a trial lawyer for over 27 years. My first jury trial took place in 1987-an acquittal on a DUI case. Since that time, I have tried many cases in both State and Federal Courts ranging from murder and drug trafficking down to accusations of stealing a pack of gum from Krogers. Most cases settle without the need for a trial but I believe my clients receive more favorable offers of settlement because Prosecutors know that if an offer is not fair, I will not hesitate to go to trial and that I have the skills and experience to obtain a favorable outcome.
I came to Louisville after graduating from Berea College in Eastern Kentucky. Though I came here to study at the University of Brandies School of Law, I quickly fell in love with the city and its people. I’ve long since graduated law school and made Louisville my home with my husband, Taylor, and our two dogs, Theo and Frida.. One core principle has guided my career: through hard work and public service, I can leverage my skills to make a difference in the lives of my community and across the Commonwealth. In service of this principle, my experience spans: a state-wide law firm, where I represented both plaintiffs and defendants in contract disputes and personal injury claims; The Legal Aid Society, where I represented more than four hundred clients in family law matters; and The Kentucky Supreme Court, where I was the staff attorney to Justice Debra H. Lambert handling family law, criminal, contract, and other appeals cases.. My professional and personal passions translate directly from that core principle. I volunteer my time and money to Kentucky-based non-profits, including Ban Conversion Therapy Kentucky, Neighbors Immigration Clinic, and The Mary Byron Project. I’m also a member of the National LGBT+ Bar Association, and the Family Law Institute, where I collaborate with attorneys across the nation on issues of: family creation through assisted reproductive technology, child custody and adoption, interstate and international parentage issues, transgender rights issues, dissolution of relationships, and domestic violence.
I began my career as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney here in Louisville, Kentucky, handling some of the state's largest cases. While there, I was a member of the economic crime unit, the FAST team, general trial unit and served as the welfare fraud liaison. The vast trial experience I acquired has made me very capable of zeaously representing each and every one of my clients in areas of personal injury and criminal defense.
I am very passionate about the practice of law and love when I am able to assist my clients with their legal needs and make their lives better. I feel privileged when my clients trust me as their lawyer, which is why I will always fight my hardest for them in the courtroom, at the negociation table, or anywhere else I may be needed.
I am truly passionate about being a lawyer. I enjoy and value the trust that comes with the responsibility our clients give me as their lawyer. This passion allows me to fight hard in the courtroom as my clients advocate to ensure their rights are protected.. Regarding my background, I am originally from Atlanta, I have lived in Louisville for the last 25 years, of which the last 15 years I have been a sucessful trial attorney. Back in 2008, I was voted by the LBA as the "Frank Haddad Young Lawyer of the Year." Since then, I have won several Walker Advocacy awards for trial success and recently was selected as 2017 Top 100 Criminal Defense Attorneys in the united States. Additionally, I also take pride in having a great work ethic and valuing my clients. I practice in family and criminal court and I am familiar with procedures in both courtrooms. It is invaluable to have an attorney that understand how to handle cases in both courtrooms.. Before law school, I did not know very many attorneys and I do not come from a family of attorneys. I believe I can relate to all of my clients on a personal level since I have a very diverse background. At the Tibbs Law Office, our goal is to be very accessible and focus on client service. As the attorney, I am involved on every case that is in the office.
