Beginning with the Code of Hammurabi, carrying forward with Holy Books and into modern times, humans have created laws to codify what is right and wrong, establish methods and means of governing behavior, and address disputes arising under the law.  During the time of the Roman Empire, under Roman Law, citizens engaged in disputes would take their grievances to certain forums and courts. Those with grievances could seek assistance from someone referred to as an advocatus. Advocatus, meaning "advocate" or "friend",  is derived from the verb advocare  (to call for help) .. We take the aforementioned history to heart, and carry it forward into practice. We believe foremost that the relationship between client and attorney is critical to creating positive outcomes, and the foundation of that relationship lies in effective communication.  We also believe representing clients is a higher calling: when we agree to represent someone, we agree to fight a fight they cannot fight for themselves. Mark B. Arthur was born and reared in Bedford County. After graduating from Jefferson Forest High School, he served in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division for four years. He graduated from the University of Virginia with distinction in 1992. After a short time working in his father's business, he attended the University of Virginia School of Law and received his law degree in 1998. Mark passed the Virginia Bar later that year.. He practiced law as a Prosecutor for the City of Lynchburg for four years. While there, he spearheaded Project Exile in the Lynchburg area. After leaving the Prosecutor's office in 2002, he went into private practice with the law firm of Fralin, Feinman, Coates and Kinnier, P.C. specializing in criminal defense and family law. In 2006, Mark Arthur established the firm of Mark B. Arthur, PC, located in downtown Lynchburg where he now practices.. He is on the board of the Lynchburg Bar Association, a member of the Virginia Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association.. Mark and his wife, Hume Hoskins Arthur, are the parents of three children and make their home in Lynchburg.

I was born and raised in Charlottesville, I attended high school at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, and Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, I graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and then attended the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, Virginia, graduating in 1992.. Prior to joining PHILLIPS, MORRISON, JOHNSON & FERRELL, I worked as a personal injury attorney with the Richmond, Virginia law firm of Hundley & Johnson, P.C. My practice at Hundley & Johnson, as at PHILLIPS, MORRISON, JOHNSON & FERRELL, focused primarily on handling all aspects of plaintiff’s personal injury litigation including, automobile accidents, tractor trailer accidents, premises liability, wrongful death and insurance matters.  i also handle divorce and family law, collections, and traffic defense.. ( am a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association; American Trial Lawyers Association; Campbell County Bar Association, Lynchburg Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar.. I have three children, Will age 15 who is a sophomore at EC Glass High School, Mack age 13, who is an 8th grader at Linkhorne Middle school, and daughter Kakie who is a 6th grader at Linkhorne Middle school.. My interests away from the office include almost anything that allows me to enjoy the outdoors, including grouse hunting with my German Shorthair Pointer, spring gobbler hunting, fishing, running, biking and golf.  I also enjoy coaching my kids in sports including soccer, basketball and football..
