Jennifer was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 2002. She received her Bachelor of Arts and graduated with honors from the University of Northern Iowa in 1999 with a major in Finance and minors in Business Communications and Coaching.. While at UNI, Jennifer played basketball for four years for the Panthers.  She then attended Drake University where she received her Juris Doctor in 2002. During law school she interned with the Jasper County Attorney's Office, Polk County Attorney's Office, and with the Peterson Law Office.. Jennifer was one of twenty-five law students nation-wide to be selected to intern for the Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) corps in Fort Stewart, GA. After graduating law school, she entered private practice with the firm of Grimes, Buck, Schoell, Beach & Hitchins of Marshalltown where she practiced for three years. She then joined with Kelly Bennett and Joanie Grife to form the firm Bennett, Steffens, & Grife, PC in September 2005. In 2011, Jennifer started the Steffens Law Office, P.C. which was later renamed Jennifer Meyer Law, PC, after her marriage.. Jennifer practices primarily in the areas of Family Law (including but not limited to Divorce, Custody, Child Support, Adoption and Juvenile Court) and Criminal Law. She is member of the Iowa Bar Association, Marshall County Bar Association, Polk County Bar Association and was a member Marshalltown Young Professionals and of the Imagine 2011 committee. She also served as a board member for Youth and Shelter Stervices Marshalltown for 2010-2011. Jennifer is previously served on the Executive Board for the Young Lawyers Division of the Iowa Bar Association.

I was born and raised in Virginia.  I grew up on the family farm.  I worked along side my parents growing apples and peaches and raising cows.  I was active in athletics and received a scholarship to attend Bluefield College in Bluefield, Virginia.  While attending college I played volleyball and softball.. I moved to Sioux City, Iowa in 1997.  My husband played baseball for the Sioux City Explorers.  I started working as a paralegal, but had my heart set on law school.  I graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2003 and moved to Marshall County, Iowa.  My husband is the baseball coach at Marshalltown Community College.  I have practiced law in Marshalltown, Iowa since 2003.  I also served on the city council and as Mayor of Haverhill, Iowa.  I am currently the President of the YMCA.
I have three wonderful children. Liberty is 12 years old and I was blessed with twins, Ella and Brady that are 9 years old. They are very active in sports and keep me busy.

5th of 6 kids, reared in a county seat and on a lake, worked construction, cleaned latrines, painted barns, played violin, piano, clarinet and guitar, outgrew asthma, studied hard, smoked 9 years, flew 1,100 hours, married well, fathered two great daughters, did 3 triathlons and 5 marathons and countless half-marathons, flunked golf, sang a few solos, tried over 160 jury trials, 35 appeals, and made a second career out of volunteering. But the tombstone should just read, "Also ran."
